The flashbacks in the opening episode take us 10 years back to when Ga Doo Shim is running along with her grandmother to save a student that has fallen into the arms of an evil spirit who’s after student achieving lowest grades.

At a certain point, Ga Doo Shim refuses to further help her grandmother, following her own wish. But with all the humanity that rested in that small heart of hers, she decides to come before the challenge that awaited her.

Sadly that day, she couldn’t save the boy, and her grandmother could not catch the spirit and unfortunately died.

Since that day, Ga Doo Shim ignores the fact she could see ghosts and hear them and continues struggling to live a life of a normal girl. But when she turned 18 and has transferred to Songyoung high school, where each year the lowest grade student dies, living a normal life would be a lot more difficult than before.

In order to stop her fears to become reality, she decides to keep a low profile throughout the time she stayed at school. But the next day, news came out that Ga Doo Shim was found next to the boy before he died.

She became the topic of the campus talk whether she pushed the boy down the roof. Adding to that, Na Woo Soo, asks her if she knows how to read compatibility – and if she can check if they are compatible.

The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim Opening Week Musings

The first two episodes of The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim are fairly short at 20 minutes apiece. Nevertheless, it provided are a clear introduction to the story. While we anticipate the series to unravel the heroine’s acceptance of her fate, we can expect lessons on bravery and friendship along the way.

Layering the liveliness of the story are familiar elements sprinkling charm to its supernatural premise. Alongside the sweet friendship, we witnessed in the second episode between Na Woo Soo and his friend Il Nam, we also saw a constrained relationship between Woo-soo and his parents, which might turn a great deal in the upcoming episodes.

The opening scene where Ga Doo Shim and Na Woo Soo had paired up together to fight against the evil spirit hovering over the school targeting students, was remarkable. But with all the chaos, the drama made on social media, I guess it could have been much better.

There was certainly no particular problem with the acting of the leading characters nor the storyline but it is not especially that griping either

The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim airs on iQiyi every Friday and will run for 12 episodes.
