K-Drama Mid-Series Recap: “Unlock My Boss” Recognizes The Importance Of Being Vulnerable

Halfway through the series, Unlock My Boss continues to reflect on issues of poverty, power abuse, and the value of trust.

Shortly after receiving a mysterious text, Seon-ji and In-seong plan on exposing the suspect at the next board meeting. It turns out it was Se-yeon pondering about her boss’ sudden absence.

They decide to place their faith in Se-yeon since she is eager to uncover the truth and will risk her safety for it. Now that she’s on board, In-seong offers her one of his earbuds so they may continue their secret conversations with Seon-ju.

To prevent them from having to break into his house again, Seon-ju makes arrangements for In-seong to stay in the place and get close to Min Ah. Eventually, In-seong and Se-yeon tracked Seon-ju down to where he left his car and began his hike into the woods.

On their way back, they realize they’re being followed by the same automobile that trailed Seon-ju before his disappearance. Attackers try to kidnap them when they pull into a secluded parking lot.

Thankfully, Ma-pi, the loan shark, arrives shortly to collect his payments. To prevent Se-yeon from getting kidnapped before she makes her payment, he fights off the attackers and forces the suspect to confess.

The bond and teamwork between our protagonists continue to grow. However, when In-seong begins questioning Seon-ju’s sincerity, their relationship’s stability is at risk.

Unlock My Boss

Unlock My Boss Mid-Series Highlights

“But if you’re going to regret it anyways, wouldn’t it be better if you choose the path you want to take?”

After obtaining his payment, Ma-pi tries to beat Nam Sang Won for attempting to abduct In Seong and Se Yeon. However, he’s not cooperative and won’t reveal any information.

Unfortunately, the police suddenly arrived and ended the interrogation after receiving complaints from the neighborhood. At the police station, only Ma-pi and Sang-won are held for questioning because of their prior criminal records.

In-seong urges his best friend to keep an eye on the police station and call in when Sang-won leaves, as the employment records at Silver Lining about him turn out to be a fraud.

When Sang-won got released, In-seong arrives just in time to follow him but eventually loses him after saving a baby in danger.

With Sang-won on the loose, In-seong decided to hire Ma-pi as a bodyguard for himself and Se-yeon. The latter isn’t a fan of the plan; however, they are positive that he is not the perpetrator’s accomplice.

In private, In-seong thereafter apologizes to Se-yeon for his going on with the plan even when she’s not comfortable.

“We get shaken, but we’re doing our best to stand our ground.”

Moving forward, Min-ah’s birthday approaches amid their investigation of Sang-won. To mark this occasion, everyone in the family takes a camping trip. Even though this is the first birthday of Min-ah that Seon-Ju missed, the celebration was still joyful.

Se-yeon and In-seong spend a brief moment together by the fire after the rest has gone to bed. In-seong shares with her how the opportunity to replace a child actor in a film sparked his ambition to pursue acting. She avoids answering his question regarding her dreams. Later, however, she says that after her mother suffered a stroke, she was forced to leave school and find a high-paying job immediately.

After Se-yeon went to rest, In-seong had a heartfelt conversation with Seon Ju. Not being present for Min Ah weighs heavily on Seon Ju, as well as not knowing if capturing the attacker will bring him back to his body.

Min-ah awakens during their conversation and bursts into tears upon hearing her father’s voice because she can’t understand why he’s not home. This instantly tears In Seong’s heart and strengthens his desire to get Seon-ju back regardless of the cost.

Meanwhile, Mi-ran’s father, the former chairman of Bumyoung Group, passes away. While in the hospital, Mi-ran has been acting Chairwoman. But with his father gone, the position must be officially filled by either her or his uncle, Young Geun.

Mi-ran is aware that Young Geun’s power in the firm puts her at a disadvantage, but she decides to take a chance anyway. During the groundbreaking ceremony, she invites In-seong up on stage and declared the launch date for their collaborative project is not yet ready to launch. Now, it’s up to In-seong and Seon-ju to make it happen, as she can’t back out of her word.

Furthermore, the search for Sang-won led to an important piece of information. He always brings Kwak Sam-soo along on his hikes with the Silver Lining hiking group. To throw Sam-soo off guard, he casually brings it up in conversation. He immediately figured out he was getting tricked but In-seong warns him about what will happen if his boss decides he’s a liability.

That frightened Sam-soo greatly. Later on, he suggests they meet in private after dark. Upon arrival, In-seong discovers Sam-soo’s body in his gas-filled car after what appears to be a staged suicide. Soon, the police arrive and promptly place In Seong under custody on murder accusations.

Unlock My Boss Mid-Series Musings

Unlock My Boss picks up the romance between In-seong and Se-yeon in the previous episodes. It is adorable to watch them together because he brings out her playful and vulnerable sides.

However, the story did turn pretty dark and violent in a snap. The scene with Ma Pi beating Sang-won was hard to watch because of the brutality. Regardless, it’s commendable the series recognized Ma Pi’s backstory which helped humanize his character.

Conversely, it’s delightful to see the bond between the protagonists strengthen. Even though Seon-ju has many complaints about In-seong, he still encourages him to act on his own. Despite his occasional insensitivity, Seon-ju’s leadership qualities lie in his ability to identify and cultivate others’ innate talents and potential.

More clues are being uncovered, and the mystery is starting to take sense. Viewers can gear up for more excitement to how In-seong and Se-yeon’s budding romance develops. Additionally, anticipate the continuation of the cast’s hilarious adventures.
