“Love To Hate You” Puts Forward A “Sweet and Sour” Romance Between Kim Ok Bin and Yoo Teo

Kim Ok Bin’s Character Transformation

For the first time in her career, the actress known for her compelling and heavy portrayals challenges the rom-com genre. She also reveals how her character has so many similarities with her that she wondered if it was written based on her.

“I wanted to take on a new challenge by breaking away from the heavy genre I was used to. I was fed up with the roles I had played so far. I thought, ‘I have to do something else’, but I read this script from the beginning. I read the script with a smile without worrying and stressing until the end. I thought it would be a new challenge because I did this work at the right time. I challenged the idea that it would be the brightest work in my filmography.”

Kim also conveyed her preparations for her role.

“At first, I thought, ‘How do I play this?’ I thought about what to do if viewers feel burdened after seeing me. In this work, I put myself down and opened up a lot. Past the middle mark of filming, I thought that the character suits me well. Interestingly, I think I showed a lot of images that only I know through this work.”

Director Kim Jung-kwon, who invited Kim Ok-bin to a romantic comedy asserts the transformation of Kim Ok Bin is worth looking forward to.

“Kim Ok Bin is an actor who is remembered for the intensity she showed in her previous works. From the director’s point of view, there is a desire for the transformation of an actor like that. I thought that it could come as a pleasure. This work proves she is an accomplished actor. You can look forward to her new role.”

Yoo Teo is Grateful For Love To Hate You

Taking the role of Nam Kang-ho, Korea’s top actor, Yoo Teo presents an energizing romance. The bickering romance would surely delight the viewers.

“I was really grateful when the offer came in. After reading the script, it was so much fun, and all the characters were charming. Each character has a trauma. I felt a lot of charm. After the first meeting with the director, I genuinely felt I can rely on him.

Echoing the same fondness, Director Kim shared thoughts about the male lead.

“Teo Yoo is handsome. He was the top actor in the play, so he had to be handsome first. You will see a lot of attractive aspects through this work.”

Equally Adorable Second Leads’ Love Story

Kim Ji Hoon and Go Won Hee play the roles of Do Won-joon, Kang-ho’s management representative, and Shin Na-eun, Mi-ran’s best friend. They are set to decorate a push-and-pull romance.

Praising the charm of Love To Hate You, he also gave insightful thoughts about the women-empowering message of the series.

“It is an interesting work with a fresh setting that breaks all the clichés of the existing romantic comedy genre. In romantic comedies, there are many obvious but fun heroines, such as Candy and Cinderella. But in this drama, Mi-ran is more proactive, progressive, and strong than anyone else.”

Love To Hate You exclusively premieres on Netflix on February 10.
