K-Drama Catch-Up: Lee Jun Ho Becomes Sweetly Protective Of Lee Se Young In “The Red Sleeve”

The recent episodes of The Red Sleeve indicate that nothing apart from jealousy may validate what the heart desires.

When it is combined with the main leads’ hate-to-love relationships, it becomes even more endearing the way we witness it in The Red Sleeve.

For one thing, Deok-im started to have irritable feelings toward Prince Lee San to the point where she couldn’t bear working in the East Palace. Nevertheless, she now helps and comforts Lee San during his torturous punishment.

Certainly, we can’t wait for Lee San’s turn to parade his affection for Deok-im and also anticipate that they will express their mutual romantic feelings with each other, regardless of the conflicts that may arise.

What Happened Since The Opening Week?

Deok-im persuades the King

We are already familiar with Sung Deok-im (Lee Se Young) and Lee San (Lee Jun Ho) working together to save the palace’s court maids from an enraged and bloodthirsty tiger.

Both of them completed the dangerous task at hand by evacuating the court maids to a safe location and killing the hungry beast.

Because the king discovered what the prince did, Lee San had been waiting outside the king’s quarters for an extended period of time to seek his forgiveness.

Despite the awful mood of the king, Deok-im musters her courage to request an audience with the king in order to convince him to forgive Lee San for his actions.

Initially, the king was furious at Lee San for not allowing the palace guards to handle the crisis. However, the ultimate reason the king is upset with him is that he is concerned Lee San may be harmed, as he is his only grandson.

A series of punishments

In episodes 4 to 6, Princess Hwawan, who is the king’s granddaughter, punishes Deok-im for brushing her skirt against the pathway of the king. She was spared severe punishment considering Lee San cleverly pleaded for her.

Meanwhile, Lee San was punished as well in the following episode because he was seen secretly visiting the courtesan house and the king received proof from Princess Hwawan’s son.

Through Deok-im’s wisdom and strategy of using the Queen to urge the King to release the prince’s confinement, Lee San was once again set free from punishment and secured his way to the throne.

Lee San’s Growing Affection

During Deok-im’s coming-of-age ceremony where she will become an official court maid, Lee San was worried because he saw her wearing her hair so high, which he foolishly mistook for a royal concubine of the king.

Informed that Deok-im is merely practicing for their ceremony, Lee San immediately understands and begins fleeing from her out of embarrassment.

Furthermore, seeing Master Hong and Deok-im alone and so close in the middle of the night put Lee San in a terrible mood. Even the other court maids in the palace are scared to serve him.

His rage was eventually subdued when Deok-im informed him that he should have scolded Hong for harassing his maid.

The Red Sleeve Episodes 3 to 6 Musings

Just as Deok-im and Lee San’s budding romance takes a more defined path, certain characters stand in the way of their love.

When Hong Deok-ro threatens and confronts Deok-im about the prince’s affections for her, the latter realizes that his plan to marry off his young sister to the prince would be a complete failure.

Lee San’s mother, who intentionally switches Deok-im’s arrangement with the other maid for her to hear Lee San’s response to marrying an eligible woman from a noble family, which Deok-im painfully heard.

Notably, there is much to foresee from The Red Sleeve in terms of its great narrative twists and turns, particularly in recent episodes where we are uncertain whether Hong Deok-ro is an enemy or a nice person.

While The Red Sleeve is a treat for romantic-thriller fans, it falls short of being addictive due to the need for more of Lee Jun Ho and Lee Se Young’s perfect love paring in the series.
