Kim Jung Hyun and Im Soo Hyang relay their creative process in building their characters as well as impressions about Kokdu: Season of Deity.
Diligently parading teasers for its newest fantasy-romance series, Kokdu: Season of Deity unveils how the lead pair channeled their talents to bring out the interesting colors of the characters they portrayed.
Kokdu: Season of Deity(WT) chronicles the story of Kkokdu (Kim Jung Hyun), the “god of death” who comes down to the earth every 99 years to punish humans. He meets Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang) a visiting doctor with mysterious abilities.

Kim Jung Hyun and Im Soo Hyang relay their creative process in building their characters as well as impressions about the series.
When asked about their first impression of the work, both affirmed being drawn to the story.
“My first impression of the work was that it was ‘innocent’. I don’t know if it was because of Kkokdu’s personality but I was attracted to both the work and the character because of its unpredictable charm.” – Kim Jung Hyun
“It was fun enough to read the entire script in one sitting.” – Im Soo Hyang
Sharing details about their characters, Kim Jung Hyun pointed out the distinction between Kokdu and Do Jin-woo.
“Kokdu is very dynamic, and Do Jin-woo is more static. So, Kokdu tried to make the size of the expression bigger than imagined, and Do Jin-woo tried to restrain himself as much as possible. As a result, not only the clothes but also the tone of the voice itself were different. I tried to focus on the goal of each character’s scene rather than focusing on two roles.”
Meanwhile, excited to work on fantasy and historical genres, Im Soo Hyang confessed Kokdu: Season of Deity is a work that made her happy.
Regarding how she differentiated the two roles she played in the series, she said that a delicate interpretation was needed to show the two women, who had completely different times and personalities, but their lives were connected.
“In the case of Han Gye-jeol, her spirited and lively side was highlighted, while Seol-hee expressed the shy woman in love. They look different, but they are the same person. They both have the strength to fight against fate. I hope you will pay attention to how each character is intertwined in the past and present lives, and what will happen due to the karma that happened in the past.”
Both hope to bring a warm story that will be remembered by the viewers.
Kokdu: Season of Deity premieres on January 27 on MBC.
