Alchemy of Souls Part 2 Episode 8 Highlights

Sharing a sweet kiss, Jang Wook and Bu-yeon mutually affirm their devotion to each other. But recognizing they have to appease Lady Jin first for the promise they mean to break, they agree to have Bu-yeon go first to Jinyowon and Wook seeking Master Park’s help to break the promise.

“I knew the moment I saw you. You are going to be my husband.”

While they bask in their newfound love, they are not aware that Yun-ok who still pines for Wook is already aware of Naksu’s secret. Seo Yul also expresses his intention to meet Lady Jin to request for the promise Wook made to be revoked.

Conversing with Yul, Bu-yeon changed her mind about going to see the tree as he tells her that doing so might bring her and Wook pain. Unknown to them, Yun-ok eavesdropped on their conversation.

Sensing something is bothering Bu-yeon, Wook who is set to visit the palace reassures her that he will go back home to be with her. He also smiles when she returns his embrace and hears her say that she will always be by his side.

Meanwhile, Yul brings the news to Lady Jin that her daughter will re-emerge along with a plea to let Naksu stay by his friend’s side.

Wook also agrees to Prince Won’s order to go to the Northern fortress without much trouble.

“Thanks to you, my body stayed whole without running wild, and I have regained most of my divine powers. You will soon have to leave this body for it is not yours.”

Bringing Bu-yeon to Naksu’s grave, Yun-ok forcedly spray the medicine that would reflect if someone is a soul shifter. Yul who learns that his letter landed on Yun-ok rushes to find her and in time saves Bu-yeon. He explains to her that Naksu will soon vanish so there’s no need for her to validate it.

While washing the medicine, Bu-yeon sees her eyes turn blue, and fragments of memories again erupt. She finds herself on a boat to visit Naksu’s hometown and there another epiphany of Bu-yeon emerged confirming the truth of their co-existence.

Finding Bu-yeon at Chwiseonru, Wook listens to her revelation of getting back her memories as well as the memory of a man she liked a lot. She decides to go back to Jinyowon and Wook acquiesces seeing the determination in her eyes.

“I cannot stop anymore. This time, I will the brazier in a summer day. This time, I will be the one waiting until you begin to miss me.”

Feeling unsettled, Wook went to Jinyowon to meet Bu-yeon one last time. Still, she makes an excuse not to see him and watch him from a distance. But when she returns to her room, she finds him waiting and makes a promise that he will wait for her.

Following the royal order, Wook bid goodbye to people close to him. Without him, Jin Mu proceeds with his plan and Prince Won is letting him use his power.

First, the villain summoned his sister to inform her that Jinyowon will be taken from her family. Using the immunity her family has, Jin Mun declared that putting a Jinyowon relic at risk warrants her to give up, which is further supported by Prince Won.

Learning about Lady Jin’s request to get the Jinyowon plaque because Jin Mu asked for it, Bu-yeon volunteers to go. Saving Lady Jin from her dilemma, she agrees to go inside a prison in Cheonbugwan haunted by ghosts to find the plaque thrown by Jin Mu.

What awaited Bu-yeon is a vast place full of roaming ghosts. When one of them attacks her, she was almost at risk. But she was saved by Jang Wook who sees her eyes turn blue.

Alchemy of Souls Part 2 Episode 8 Musings

Another solid episode for Alchemy of Souls Part 2. In particular, we see the signature catchphrase infused by Hong sisters in their works. The “turn off turn on” line in Wook and Bu-yeon’s love narrative keeps sweetening the story in time for the looming chaos hinted to happen.

Master Lee makes us love and hate him for disclosing secrets little by little. Why he told a different theory to Lady Jin is still a mystery. Or maybe there is a different outcome that he intends to disclose at another time.

Now, he just made the love story even more agonizing by giving out the idea that Wook has the power to keep Naksu’s spirit inside. But then, Lady Jin already knew about the crucial information that Naksu’s spirit is bound to vanish making everything complicated.

With episode 8’s cliffhanger, will Naksu brave the odds to reveal who she really is? As her presence again would endanger Jang Wook. Inescapably, with Jin Mu’s growing power through his secret organization, war will break loose. That will be prevented if the truth that he caused the chaos three years ago will be unearthed.

There’s something cryptic to the relenting attitude Prince Won is showing his evil teacher. We are betting his heart that took care of the divine turtle will impel his real warm nature.
