Big Bet Episode 6 Highlights

“Why would I trust them? The only thing that I trust is money.”

Beginning his new work in the Philippines, Seung-hun gets briefed on how different life would be from his usual post in the headquarters. He gets introduced to the president of the Korean community association in Agiles, and stays at an accommodation with no elevator.

Moo-sik meets Kyung-young who pledges to introduce him to an investor. Jung-pal tries to warn Moo-sik, but he already knows about Kyung-young’s records.

Proceeding with his plans, Kyung-young grandly welcomes his investors at the airport. Asked how much he makes from his casino, Moo-sik refuses to tell the exact figure, and Kyung-young intentionally changes the conversation with his investors.

With his name on the line as a guarantor, Moo-sik asks Kyung-young to send the funds to him. Moo-sik then refuses to be involved if he will not be the one handling the investors’ funds.

“What’s there to be happy about when you’re obsessed with gambling?”

Sweaty on his first day, Seung-hun starts his work at the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group or CIDG. He gets welcomed into the Korean community at Agiles, and he explains his duty to make their community feel safer in the country.

Kyung-young hears about how his investors doubt him, wanting to retrieve their money back. Angry about it, he confronts them and falls into a heated argument with them.

Acting like a brother who cares, Moo-sik tries to stop Mr. Jeong from gambling even though he really wishes him to continue. Interrupted in their exchange, Moo-sik meets with John in a gambling house.

Doing an errand for his big boss Daniel, John lets Moo-sik play with Chen and some members of the Chinese mafia. Moo-sik leaves early, and John kills four Chinese mafia men in the bathroom. He then sends a picture of it to Moo-sik, and warns Chen not to sell any shares without the permission of the big boss.

“Hey, if you don’t trust me, I can’t do anything to protect you. But I can protect you if you trust me.”

Asked to investigate the CEO of Pastella, Seung-hun asks Mark about Bolton, but he gets warned not to probe into Mr. Cha who is well-connected with prominent figures. Pursuing his task, Seung-hun looks around Bolton assisted by So-jung, and takes a video of Ms. Ko gambling.

Threatened by his investors’ withdrawal, Kyung-young secures a gun and eyes a sugarcane field. Late at night, he asks for Moo-sik’s help, confessing he committed the murder of his investors who were also wanted.

Prepared with a car that cannot be tracked, Kyung-young later refuses to ride on it. Moo-sik then reminds him that he cannot be protected if he does not trust him. Kyung-young proceeds to flee, and Moo-sik tells Jung-pal that a murder happened.

Big Bet Episode 6 Musings

Son Suk Ku’s character Oh Seung-hun has been entertaining to watch while he adjusts to his new life in unimaginable working conditions. He’s definitely not used to his current workplace compared to the headquarters he used to work at.

Though his working conditions may not be at the best level, his determination to fulfill his duty continues. Along with his adjustment period is the arrival of new shady characters, which are all connected to Moo-sik.

Though Moo-sik continues to rise as a legend in the casino industry, his recent decisions on being involved with people who have committed murder opened up a new door of risks for him, which may later push him to his fall.

Understandably, John and Kyung-young are people who could have brought him more wealth. However, as much as opportunities they could offer, dealing with them also increases the likelihood of Moo-sik and his operations’ collapse.

With murders taking place and guns being acquired easily, the series begins to show its darker side. As Seung-hun also begins his operations, more thrilling events can be anticipated in the remaining two episodes.
