Cheer Up Episode 9 Highlights

“I had a tip-off. The person who sent me the tip-off and the person who sent the threatening messages… They’re probably members of the cheering squad. And at the field trip too. They’re probably watching you today.”

Amid the festival’s preparation, Yoo-min confronted Song Ho-min from the Broadcasting Club, asking if he upload the video. Ho-min bluntly answered that the information in the video was from a tip-off.

He also suspects that the tipper is probably a Theia member and was at the field trip when the video was uploaded. After learning this, Yoo-min reaches out to Jung-woo and warned him that Hae-yi is indeed at risk.

Furthermore, Yoo-min showed him the messages she has been receiving. Additionally, she told Jung-woo that the culprit wants to meet her at the observatory at 4 PM.

They then plan to catch the culprit where Yoo-min will be the bait while Jung-woo will watch out for whoever leaves the arena at the meeting time. However, 15 minutes passed but there were no traces of the culprit.

Jung-woo then decided to check on Yoo-min, and suddenly, a Theia senior arrived, Kim Jin-il, gave Yoo-min a paper he “saw” in the checklist file. Little did they know that Jin-il was the culprit they have been searching for.

“They just made that up in one day. How could we put that on stage?”

On the D-day of the festival, Theia’s newbie members were all excited to perform the song they had been working on. Since Sun-ja and Min-jae will be in front, their excitement and nervousness are doubled.

Nonetheless, they received bad news that their performance was canceled because the original composer was arrested. Seeing how this emotionally affected Min-jae, Sun-ja cheers him up and secretly planned to add changes to the new song.

With the help of Hae-yi reaching out to the school’s band, they were able to change the song quickly. In addition, the seniors face another crisis as one of the listed celebrity performances was also canceled.

They then all agreed that the newbies should fill in the gaps of other supposed numbers. Specifically, Captain Jung-woo convinced the seniors to trust them and put them on stage.

Not only that the newbies will perform their composed songs but all of them were able to wear elaborate uniforms. During their performance, Hae-yi, Jung-woo, and Sun-ho’s loved ones were also able to watch them and enjoy the event.

“Hae-yi, I like you. It’s my first time telling someone that I like her, you know. It’s easy to say, “Will you go out with me?” But to say, “I like you,” I was a little scared.”

As the event concludes, Sun-ho grabbed this special night to finally say “I like you” to Hae-yin. While Jukjae sings one of his tracks, ‘Do You Want To Walk with Me,’ in the background, Sun-ho genuinely confesses his feelings.

Known to be in many short-term relationships, saying “I like you” was the first time he ever says this to a girl he pursues. Despite knowing that he’s in unrequited love, Sun-ho expresses that he still likes Hae-yi.

Far from them is where Jung-woo stands while looking at them. Yoon-mi then confirms that he indeed has feelings for him and stated that he will have regrets.

In their last performance, Jung-woo conveys a message to the culprit telling him to show up instead of harming his squad members.

Cheer Up Episode 9 Musings

This week’s episode is filled with the passion and dedication of Theia newbies, especially Sun-ja and Min-jae. We appreciate that the drama gave a spotlight to other characters that balance its progression.

We were able to witness Hae-yi, Sun-ho, Sun-ja, Min-jae, and Yong-il’s milestones and growth as individual performers. Their commitment gave hope and prove that there is a future for Theia.

On the other hand, Jung-woo and Sun-ho made a heartstopping confession in this episode. As finally Jung-woo confessed — secretly — there’s pain and sadness felt in this confession.

Like what happened to Yoo-min, his first love, his feelings brought danger to her. Now that he has confirmed his feelings toward Hae-yi, Jung-woo is afraid to do the same mistake again.

On the other, Sun-ho made a bold confession, like Jung-woo, there’s also sadness in his confession. Even though he is vocal about his feelings, this can’t control Hae-yi to like him.

But who knows? Maybe his constant genuine expression of his feelings can win Hae-yi and shift the story.

Furthermore, as the culprit has been unveiled, I expect that the upcoming episodes would be more fun yet thrilling. Let’s also unveil Jin-il’s true motives and see if there are other Theia members who are his accomplice.
