Curtain Call Episodes 5 and 6 Highlights

“He may be unprepared, but it’s better to take root earlier on. That’s how he can grow into a strong tree.”

Worried for her grandmother because of her dream, Se-yeon sees Chairwoman Ja peacefully taking a stroll around their place. Jae-heon and Yoon-hee come back from their vacation, bringing smiles to Chairwoman Ja.

Passed onto several people, Se-jun receives the document containing the falsified background information of Ri Moon-seong and Jang Jin-suk that Mr. Jeong prepared.

Jae-heon amuses the women of the household as he cooks dumplings. Se-jun attempts to talk to him in Chinese, and Yoon-hee saves Jae-heon by replying back, explaining that her husband can only understand but not speak the language.

Eating together, Chairwoman Ja appreciates what Jae-heon cooked. Fulfilling Se-yeon’s request, she convinces Jae-heon to start working in Nakwon since she wants all of them to live well even when she passes away. Aware of the risks, Yoon-hee suggests to Jae-heon to take a physically demanding job.

Supposed to be in the planning office with Se-yeon, Mr. Kim interferes, assigning Jae-heon as a porter, which he gladly accepts. Drinking on his first day worries Yoon-hee. Passed out, Jae-heon mouths he likes Se-yeon, and Yoon-hee becomes irritated. In the morning, Chairwoman Ja finds delight in getting the chance to scold her grandson.

“Helping your beloved fulfill her dream, while wanting to ruin it if you’re not the one to give it to her, those two are incomparable.”

Yoon-hee goes out with Ji-won shopping for a retro-themed party she’s attending. Watching how Ji-won’s rude friends interact with her, Yoon-hee wittily defends Ji-won, and allows her to speak her heart out. Walking out of the party, the two enjoy eating out together. Yoon-hee then fact-checks if one of Ji-won’s friends really studied at Harvard law school.

Feeling thankful for everything she has at present, Chairwoman Ja’s state worsens. Mr. Jeong suggests going back to the hospital, but she asks for time to fix everything before going back.

Dong-jae calls on Jae-heon as a porter to bring his things to his room. He tries to give him luxury gifts as a bribe, but this doesn’t win Jae-heon’s view of him. Instead, he criticizes Dong-jae’s love for Se-yeon.

Talking about Dong-jae on their way home, Se-yeon and Jae-heon almost fall into a car accident. Moved with the recent events, Mr. Jeong reminds Se-yeon that her cousin’s presence is only temporary.

“They say truth is stranger than fiction, but this is a little too much.”

Coming back late to his station, Mr. Kim scolds Jae-heon, and moves him to the laundry room. There, he meets his friends from their small theater, and as Se-yeon comes to check on him, he slips back to his act as Ri Moon-seong.

Having dinner together, Jae-heon explains his situation to his friends. Meanwhile, Yoon-hee falls into a bad mood after Se-yeon relays to her that Jae-heon is out late again to meet his coworkers. Later that night, Jae-heon tells Yoon-hee whom he met, which excites her.

Se-yeon confronts Se-jun about Mr. Kim’s rudeness to their cousin, but Se-jun clarifies none of it was his order. Bringing back their past, Se-jun stops Se-yeon when she mentions whether his hate for the hotel is rooted in their parents’ death.

Mr. Jeong brings Yoon-hee to the hotel as she requested, and she meets with their friends from the theater in the staff room. Yoon-hee unknowingly passes by her mom, and Attorney Oh takes a glimpse of her.

“When you live in abundance and have more rules to follow, you start having more things to do. You start wanting more.”

Jae-heon suggests to Dong-jae have dinner together with his wife and Se-yeon. Offending Dong-jae at dinner by talking about his engagement with Se-yeon in the past, Jae-heon also irritates Yoon-hee.

She kicks Jae-heon out of their room while being frustrated that her fake husband is unaware of her feelings nor even his own feelings. Sitting outside, Se-yeon comes to sit with him, and they talk about love. Saying he loves his wife, Se-yeon envies him for being open about his feelings.

She later brings him to the place she paints, and their conversation strikes Se-yeon as they talk about her parents and her prioritization of the hotel over her passion.

Jeong-suk brings Se-jun a meal, and they talk about his stand at the hotel. He admits he once loved the hotel, but also wonders whether their grandmother values her family or the hotel.

Driving back, Jae-heon amuses Se-yeon by being able to verify his identity without an ID at the checkpoint while acting like he cannot speak. Overly delighted, Jae-heon mistakenly sends good night to Mr. Jeong.

“If they are the relationships that I can count with my ten fingers, then surely they are precious ones, aren’t they?”

Hearing he can earn his Chinese passport soon, Moon-seong works hard at a gambling house in China after being motivated to go to South Korea and speak about how his father died.

Chairwoman Ja prepares an invitation for her final banquet, and she asks Mr. Jeong to prepare the invitations. Gathering her grandchildren, Chairwoman Ja asks them to invite only ten people who are precious to them.

Se-jun invites Attorney Oh while Se-yeon gives out her invitations to Hyo-jin and Dong-jae. Meanwhile, Mr. Jeong tells Jeong-suk he has no other people to invite.

On the day of the banquet, Yoon-hee sees her mother with Se-jun while Jae-heon sees Hyo-jin with Se-yeon, which makes both of them freeze.

Curtain Call Episodes 5 and 6 Musings

Se-jun, who is described as a rational businessman, shows briefly his soft side in these recent episodes. Although he may be serious about selling the hotel, his character being vulnerable around Jeong-suk proves how complex his emotions are regarding his family and their business.

Despite seeing a match in DNA, it appears that Se-jun still has doubts about his cousin’s identity. Now that Jae-heon and Yoon-hee are facing crises by bumping into their acquaintances, this could easily end their grand act.

Adorable moments of Jae-heon and Se-yeon together can be appreciated in these episodes whilst rethinking if their label as cousins fits what their characters feel. It appears as though Jae-heon is the only one oblivious to his feelings, and even Yoon-hee could sense it.

Just as Se-yeon worded it, her cousin came at the right time as if serving what their family needs at that moment. That ideal figure is only temporary, and involving Jae-heon in Nakwon could instantly dissolve the act he and Mr. Jeong built.

Moon-seong becomes more determined to cross borders to relay a message about how his father died. With his eagerness, Moon-seong’s timing to show up is something to anticipate while watching how Jae-heon and Yoon-hee will handle their problem at the banquet.
