Delivery Man Episode 4 and 5 Highlights
Previously, Young-min was given a chance to go back to his life before meeting Ji-hyun. Haunted by Ji-hyun that keeps popping in his thoughts, he looks for a charger to power the mobile phone and brings her back from the ghost limbo.
“Why did I pay 50 dollars for that charger?”
It’s business as usual, Ji-hyun joins Young-min to work, but as usual, the first customer can’t stand the presence of the invisible ghost.
Feeling bad especially when she saw his earnings the other day, Ji-hyun cheers Young-min up to continue his working day.
When she asks why he took the effort to buy the charger, he responds sincerely that no one can help her and that he got the idea from his friend whose mother has dementia.
Driving a plucky ghost outside Seoul, Young-min, unfortunately, was not able to get her to pay the bill as she did not have money. But she gave her a useful tip on the hot spot for ghosts that he can go for lucrative sales.
Meanwhile, Detective Chang-suk continues his investigation into Ji-hyun’s death which links to Young-min’s mother’s case. His junior Tae-woo looks suspicious as he feeds their investigation to someone.
They then visit Ji-hyun’s father to clarify his intervention in getting a notebook from a cafe, which is evidence in the case. New clues from the notebook align with the investigation they are doing.
“I’m doomed. I think I like her.”
The tip turns out to be accurate and a ghost named Sin-woo (Park Sun Ho) who knows Ji-hyun even sheds a starting point for finding who she really is.
Unfortunately, Ji-hyun’s personal information can’t be retrieved at the school tipped by Sin-woo. She also appears to not have any social media pages.
Young-min also agrees to Sin-woo’s bucket list of preparing romantic gifts and surprises for his first love, who is coincidentally Ji-hyun. From a private movie night to a romantic dinner and a party; Young-min prepared all diligently.
Amidst his preparations, some feelings he cannot fathom are also growing.
In the end, Young-min didn’t bring Ji-hyun to the place where Sin-woo was about to propose. Learning how two souls who are in love can jointly reach their closure, Young-min hopes that Ji-hyun regains her memories first.
Meanwhile, Cheongdam Shaman, Dong-wook, also helps them by doing hypnosis to get more details about Ji-hyun’s life. However, the place she remembers does not have any people working anymore.
After processing his feelings, he brings Ji-hyun to Sin-woo and apologizes for what happened. However, when Sin-woo proposes to Ji-hyun, she politely refuses citing she wants to get her memories back and Young-min can help her with that.
Delivery Man Episodes 4 and 5 Musings
The parade of cameo appearances as guests in Delivery Man is proving to be engrossing and we can’t help but look forward to seeing more of those special guests.
Interestingly, the worldbuilding of human and ghost coexistence in the series chooses an easy path that makes viewers benefit from it.
Getting more insights into what led to Ji-hyun’s case and the developing feelings Young-min has for her are shaping up to be the driving points of the series.
Moreover, there’s a balance of humor and intrigue sprinkled in the narrative. This series is probably the first one that empathized so well with the ghost lead character that it provided details on how she can change her clothes.
In the previous episodes, the scenes at the Emergency Room of Daehun Medical Center appear to be unnecessary fillers. But now, we can see how the details will intersect in the plot trajectory. We can assume that Dr. Do Kyu-jin (Kim Min Seok) will involve himself in Ji-hyun’s case which the police are investigating.
Also highlighted in the 5th episode is the case of a young girl that went missing and was reported by her sibling Ha-jun (Jang Sun Yool) who can also see a ghost.
