IDOL: The Coup Episode 5 Key Moments

“It wasn’t about making it to the finish line. It was hoping for someone to hold your hand just this once.”

Ray overhears Jenna and Ji-han’s plans, and questions Ji-han’s decisions. However, Ji-han clarifies how his move is not solely because of Jenna, instead, it was because he sees himself in them.

He himself has experienced being deemed as someone who has no potential by CEO Cha. With that, Ji-han wishes to extend his hands to his colleague who experiences the same struggle.

“We’ve been dead for a long time.”

Jenna and her group set the plan, and tips off Reporter Mo. Arriving at their set-up, Reporter Mo witnesses Jenna and Ji-han who are about to meet. However, CEO Cha arrives in time as he was tipped off by Ray. He calls out to Jenna, which moves Jenna to make an unthinkable decision, kissing CEO Cha.

With a camera, Reporter Mo captures everything that has happened. Ray and Director Yoon tend to Ji-han, who is also taken aback by Jenna’s move.

Meanwhile, in the company, CEO Cha tells Jenna that her move is a mistake. Jenna counters his statement that she and the CEO may be unqualified for a rumor to start, but Ji-han’s presence at the scene would be enough to start a scoop about a love triangle.

CEO Cha warns how Jenna may be crushed by Mars fans, but that doesn’t faze her.

“Draw a line between public and private matters.”

CEO Cha tells Ji-han how he is played like a fool by Jenna’s surprise move. The CEO continues telling Ji-han that he hasn’t changed, and also informs him that he didn’t hate Ji-han’s mom, instead, he hated the fact that she became his mother.

“Whether it’s because you were happy or comforted, or excited, or you just fell in love, everyone has a moment that made their hearts flutter.”

Ji-han visits Cotton Candy’s dorm, and confronts Jenna using him in a nasty way. He expresses how he feels betrayed since he has thought they were one team. Jenna, however, explains her side how she didn’t intend on doing that, and also counters his belief of them being a team.

Walking out feeling hurt, Ji-han receives a call from Bbiyong about the guide song. Hearing the song while driving, Ji-han thinks of his conversation with Jenna about good songs that can make you recall good moments.

“Don’t bet your life on uncertainties.”

Cotton Candy gets called to the company to be informed about their group’s remaining contract period. They are granted the 3 months, but they will have no support from the company, and they have to pay rent. Moreover, their profit shall be split into 50:50 with the company.

Given that, the four members of Cotton Candy rejoice for that event. When they arrive at their dorm, Elle greets them with her bags packed. Elle informs the group about her departure, and Jenna no longer stops Elle from leaving.

The company plans on blocking all the possible music sources of Cotton Candy, but Jenna is able to deal with Bbiyong in producing their song. The group has also decided to start a video content narrating their journey to reaching the top in a music show, and disbanding.

“Don’t speak as if you’re okay with it. You’re not okay with it.”

Coincidentally, Jenna’s place of delivery is the same as the charity event that would be attended by CEO Cha and Ji-han. They all ride the same elevator along with Director Yoon and Reporter Mo, but Jenna keeps her helmet on. CEO Cha and Ji-han are aware of Jenna’s presence.

Ji-han grabs the chance to talk to Jenna after exiting the comfort room, but they rush back inside together after hearing Reporter Mo. They overhear CEO Cha and Reporter Mo’s conversation about how he will use his captured content only when the group has become famous. They also overhear the reporter’s insult towards Jenna, who is thought of as a desperate person that will use the CEO.

Meanwhile, Bbiyong delays and neglects the requests of Jenna for her group’s song, saying that the concept changes their aiming for is not the right choice. Hyun-ji joins Jenna in confronting Bbiyong, and she triggers the producer by bringing up his past.

As the situation gets heated, CEO Cha arrives to block Bbiyong’s anger. However, Bbiyong feels betrayed and exposes the CEO as the one who ordered to neglect Jenna’s requests.

IDOL: The Coup Episode 5 Musings

Starting a dating rumor was a mutual decision by Ji-han and Jenna, but their plan didn’t play out as how they imagined. Ji-han feels betrayed, but Jenna’s group has been granted the remaining three months of their contract.

Jenna’s move was unthinkable and outrageous, but it was understandable given Cotton Candy’s situation. This just truly shows how willing she is to do anything for her group. Moreover, she has been more fearless now as they have already foreseen that the end of the three months is truly the last chance.

What’s shocking in this episode is that Ji-han and CEO Cha appear to have ties with each other outside the industry. CEO Cha’s remark about Ji-han’s mother appears to tell that they are stepbrothers.

Elle’s decision to leave is saddening, but presented with her parents’ situation in the previous episode, viewers may come to understand her character more. Even with that departure in this episode, there is hope for her coming back to the group. Together with all the members, they will seize the remaining three months.

Knowing how Bbiyong was willing to help Jenna gives relief that there is still someone who will support Cotton Candy. However, as the episode progresses, his true nature and issues are exposed, and we are hinted with another producer that might help Cotton Candy.

Seeing how CEO Cha reacted by the end of the episode, viewers shall look forward to what the CEO’s real intentions are.
