Jirisan Episode 12 Key Moments

Continuing that “unfortunate summer of 2019” story, while the villagers prepare for the memorial event and hikers go on with their activities; Yi-gang and Chief Do sense something off in the air.

Their instincts confirm an approaching rainfall leading to a torrential flood.

“Be careful. The murderer’s out to get you.”

The emergency siren wails on the mountain alarming the hikers and visitors with their respective businesses. The localized heavy rain on Mount Jiri is also announced to the nearby villagers who were asked to be wary of it.

As all rangers were mobilized, the road leading to the mountain was also blocked due to rockfall. Convening the rangers for the rescue missions, together with the local police and firemen, they set forth for the rescue operations.

Yi-gang warns Hyun-jo to be careful since the mountain killer might make a move to harm him. He then tells her how the victims of the murders are all connected to the 1995 Dowon valley flooding. Surmising the culprit might be involved in the flooding incident that killed Yi-gang’s parents, she denied it citing her parents were just unlucky.

Meanwhile, Chief Kim who was helping the man who pushed for the cable car project in 1991, learned that he did not throw the dead animal inside the well.

They all meet at a place with a telephone signal booster. Hyun-jo rush to bring the wounded hiker as Goo-young and company are on their way to the cave where Yi-gang and another injured man are on a standby.

“No. My parents didn’t do that. My mom and dad would never do that to me.”

On their way to Yi-gang’s spot, Goo-young discovers the lottery winner girl stranded on a cliff. Without a proper gear to rescue her, he reports it at the base. Chief Jo who motions to leave was stopped by Yang-sun who volunteered to help since the chief is needed in the base camp.

Inside the cave, Yi-gang senses something odd after the injured man removed his gloves. It was also noticed by Hyun-jo before when he saw it. Insisting to go down after hearing sounds from rock avalanche, Yi-gang assures him the bedrock is safe.

She further learns the man to be one of the survivors of Dowon valley flooding. That he survived by opting to leave the building. Out of immense fear, he runs and leaves the chasing Yi-gang who fell on the ground when he was pushed bu him.

In her waning consciousness, she remembered the scene when her grandmother spoke with the insurance agent explaining the conditions of insurance left by the parents won’t work if they proved to have committed suicide. Yi-gang who overheard the conversation back then strongly denied that her parents would never took their life just for money.

“I can stand strong again as long as I have my family.”

When Yi-gang didn’t respond on his radio check, Hyun-jo rushes to where they left her. Right at that moment, Yi-gang wakes up and receives an apology to the man who pushed her. He also brings her back inside the cave and informs about the mudslide.

Confessing his intention to die because of his life problems, and there’s no reason for him to live, he shared his visit to Jirisan inspired to to live again.

It was revealed how he had encountered Yi-gang’s parents at the stone pagoda wishing spot on Mount Jiri in 1995. The famed wishing spot has survived the natural disasters that befell the mountain through the years miraculously.

When he asked Yi-gang’s father what he wished for, he responded wanting to be a good father. Despite his financial failure, he was confident to overcome any problem as long as he has his family. Recognizing his story to be of her father, tears welled in her eyes.

Just then, the rangers arrive, Yi-gang shares with Hyun-jo her new-found realization of how her parents’ choice to stay in the building could have been because of how she strongly griped leaving Seoul after his father’s financial mistake.

At that time, Yi-gang’s parents refused to leave a note firmly believing they will survive the ordeal and say it those loving words face to face.

“They said someone would come. How come no one is here?”

The clouds cleared and the rain finally dissipated as Goo-young safely led the injured man to a safe place. Just then, the man remembered the lottery winner girl he encountered who was supposed to have been rescued by Yang-sun and another ranger.

Back at the base camp, the rescue operations wind down successfully getting the stranded hikers and visitors safely. Almost all of Haedong rangers are back.

Hyun-jo chats with the Dowon flooding valley survivor to get a picture if the volunteer rangers might have engaged in a fight at that time. However, he does not recollect having any as the situation was life-and-death back then.

Failing to get information on Yang-sun’s whereabouts, Goo-young asked Chief Jo and heard the answer through the radio. Team Haedong unitedly beam at Yang-sun’s feat especially Goo-young. Just when the team thought Yang-sun safely secured the the stranded hiker, screams erupt from the radio.
