Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist Episode 7 Highlights

“It is the promissory note. For the 50 nyang Jang Kyung-sook borrowed from me… You must pay off her debt in her stead.”

After hearing that the land where Gyesoo Clinic is established brings good luck, Commander Im blackmails Physician Gye to own the property. He brings back a promissory note that shows an unpaid debt of Ip Bun’s mother, Jang Kyung-sook.

Since she is already deceased, Commander Im transfers her unpaid debt to Physician Gye and added large interest from 50 nyang to 1,000 nyang. If Physician Gye cannot pay, Commander Im will take Gyesoo Clinic or sell Ip-bun.

When Physician Gye doesn’t accept his condition, Commander Im threatens him. He plans on revealing to Ip-bun that he is not her real father and that he is a quack doctor who killed Kyung-sook.

Still, Physician Gye sticks to his words and will do anything to protect Gyesoo Clinic while preventing disappointing Ip-bun with the truth.

“It is not too late for her. Once we find the root of her problem, help her release her anger, and sort out the arson charge, she might be able to be happy again.”

While Physician Gye sorts out his problems, Se-poong, Lady Eun-woo, and the rest help a woman who is framed for throwing arson on a house. Se-poong and Eun-woo first saw Yoo-jung in a lake who seems to be suffering from a mad dog illness.

However, Eun-woo isn’t convinced that she suffers from this illness since she personally knows her when she buys books from their store. As they investigate and ask questions to Yoo-jung’s mother-in-law, they learned that Yoo-jung recently lost his daughter to an illness.

The bottled fury in Yoo-jung’s chest led her on blaming and hurting herself. Furthermore, Se-poong and Eun-woo also believed that she did not intentionally burn a house.

With that, they convince Royal Inspector Sin-woo to release her so that they can treat her. Se-poong made a deal that in three days, they will help Yoo-jung repress her anger and prove that she did not commit a crime.

“I can see clearly now. The fire that burned me up is gone too. I will remember what you did for me for the rest of my life.”

After Royal Inspector Sin-woo was allowed to release Yoo-jung, the Gyesoo Family took her in and became her emotional support. To help her release her fury, Lady Eun-woo made her realize that noble women can also freely express their anger.

Like noble men who verbally abuse their wives, Eun-woo points out that social status should not silence women like them. In addition, they also helped Yoo-jung to bid her farewell to her deceased daughter who she had trouble letting go.

Yoo-jung blames herself for her daughter’s death because she followed her husband’s order instead of listening to her daughter. With the help of Ip-bun and the rest, Yoo-jung finally let go of her and gradually forgives herself.

Moreover, Se-poong and Eun-woo figure out that Yoo-jung’s husband was having an affair. That woman personally burned her house and accuse Yoo-jung. As they investigate the woman, they also found out that she forged her identity and fraud noble men for money.

With Eun-woo’s advice, Yoo-jung finally got the courage to talk back to her husband and express her anger to him. Letting out her emotions helped her on removing the fire that burns on her chest, and learns to always choose happiness.

“The Gyeongguk Daejeon says the interest cannot exceed 60 percent of the principal.”

Going back to Commander Im’s threat to Physician Gye, he personally went to the clinic to remind him about the promissory note. Physician Gye then panicked thinking that Commander Im will reveal his secrets to Ip-bun.

However, the tables have turned when Ip-bun doesn’t seem to be surprised when Commander Im revealed the secrets. She also doesn’t believe that her mother died because of Physician Gye since acupuncture is not the right treatment for her mother’s illness.

The rest of the Gyesoo Family also doesn’t seem to be surprised by the revelations. Ip-bun then said that Physician Gye often blurts out this issue when he is drunk.

Se-poong also backs up Physician Gye that Commander Im should not charge him with high interest because it violates a law called Gyeongguk Daejeon.

Poong, The Joseon Psychiatrist Episode 7 Musings

We got to see the goofy side of the Gyesoo Family in the seventh episode of the series. They set a warm atmosphere where the viewers also feel that they are part of the family.

Gradually, we also get to learn more about Physician Gye Ji-han’s life. It turns out that he studied with Se-poong’s father and Physician Shin Gui-soo.

From what Se-poong heard from Royal Inspector Sin-woo and Physician Gye’s conversation, Physician Gye, Yoo Hoo-myung, and Shin Gui-soo were taught by the author of Haedongboncho, Jeon Kyu-hyung.

Physician Gye was there when Kyu-hyung was killed, and his books were burned to clear the evidence of the King’s death. However, the book of Haedongboncho that contains details of the poisonous plant that killed the King survived and is in Se-poong’s hands.

Furthermore, Royal Inspector Sin-woo is still not making his move on killing Se-poong. Even though his true intentions are still not clear, his actions show that he secretly wanted to help Se-poong.

He also finally found out that the owner of the acupuncture needle used by the King is Se-poong’s. Let us then patiently wait on Sin-woo’s next move and also join the Gyesoo Family’s next journey.
