Misunderstandings abound and so does jealousy as our leads go around in circles and fail to communicate their feelings properly.
But when they finally become honest, it is game over already.

Spring Fever Episodes 5 and 6 Highlights
“The whole thing about your knee injury was a lie.”
Realizing Bom is on the same team as him, Jae-gyu gets astounded and considers going back on his word. But his promise to Han-gyul about not participating holds him back. Funnily, I-jun is torn as well since Bom is no longer on the same team as him and Se-jin.
The games start, and Han-gyul lets Se-jin’s team win the first round, to his teammates’ frustration. Desperate, Bom approaches Jae-gyu and pleads with him to step in. From promising to tell him the reason she lashed out at him if he wins, to appealing to him emotionally. Jae-gyu is swayed, but he can’t bring himself to betray Han-gyul. Yet when Bom utters the words, “I need you,” Jae-gyu can’t help but follow her wishes.
“You always make people trust you and then betray them.”
Stepping up, Jae-gyu turns the tide in Bom’s team’s favor. They come in first, getting Bom and Jae-gyu ecstatic. But Se-jin cries after losing out, and Han-gyul feels awful to see her tears. Back at home, Han-gyul calls his uncle a traitor, and both uncle and nephew are losers in love. Simultaneously, Bom dances around with her medal and catches herself thinking of Jae-gyu. Looks like someone is developing feelings here.
Since he held his end of the deal, it is time for Bom to tell Jae-gyu the reason she got mad at him. Yet she is embarrassed to tell the truth and feels guilty about lying.
Stalling for time, their conversation flows to parenting as Bom shares her fear of messing up while raising Bom-sik, the cute puppy Jae-gyu rescued last week. But Jae-gyu assures her it is normal for parents to make mistakes while raising their children. As long as parents genuinely love their kids, they are bound to forgive them. (Side note: Bom and Jae-gyu fought over who would raise Bom-sik. Yet Jae-gyu yielded in return for getting to visit Bom-sik twice a week.)
“Isn’t it because I keep trying to cross the line with you?”
To Jae-gyu’s surprise, Bom asserts she got angry not because he kept trying to cross the line but because she was afraid of crossing the line herself. It is apparent Bom likes Jae-gyu. But because of her trauma, she has resolved to never get involved with a parent. So, Jae-gyu vows to wait for her until Han-gyul finishes high school. They will meet again at the same spot on Han-gyul’s graduation day and start dating. Two years is a long time. But seeing how genuine and resolute Jae-gyu is, Bom decides to trust him. However, he shouldn’t show that he likes her before anyone at school. Which Jae-gyu promises to do.
The next day, though, Bom happens upon Jae-gyu meeting a woman. It is the same mysterious woman whom town folks suspect to be Jae-gyu’s ex and Han-gyul’s birth mother. Bom’s jealousy goes through the roof. Seems like someone is eating her words about keeping it a secret.
“Don’t you know when to jump in and when to step back?”
Dressed up to the nines, Bom sweeps Jae-gyu off his feet once again. And the poor guy has to run it off and plow fields to distract himself so he won’t ask her to date instantly. Funnily, Bom misinterprets Jae-gyu’s actions as avoiding her and calls him a jerk. Why won’t he look her in the eye or answer her questions? The answer is because he is smitten and laments how there is no time machine to send him two years ahead.
While Jae-gyu meditates and looks for ways to distract himself, I-jun jumps at the chance to show off his competency to Bom and subtly convince her to seek his help if she wants to sue anyone. Bom begins to share her story, disguising it as an acquaintance’s. But they are interrupted by the police who argue that a thief barged into Bom’s house.
Except, the “thief” they caught is Jae-gyu who came to visit Bom-sik. And the actual thief is out there. Or maybe not, since the man turns out to be a locksmith who was there to replace the broken lock of Bom’s front gate. The situation escalates, though, when an oblivious Jae-gyu chases after the man and knocks him down. And now he is locked up for assaulting an innocent man and the locksmith staunchly refuses to settle.
Adding insult to injury, Bom scolds Jae-gyu for being reckless and always jumping in without thinking. Can’t he be like I-jun and use his brain instead of his brawn? Feeling bitter, Jae-gyu mentions how she left Bom-sik alone in the house to meet I-jun. And she is about to bring up the mysterious woman when I-jun interrupts them. The locksmith is determined to sue Jae-gyu and he is the only lawyer in town. So what will Jae-gyu do?
Choosing his pride, Jae-gyu turns down the offer. But he gets released the next day and we later see that Bom is the one who got the locksmith to settle. Contacting her estranged mother after a long time of no contact, Bom gets the locksmith a ticket for the concert of his favorite singer. But Jae-gyu has no idea about anything because Bom is mad and refuses to say a word about it or ask him about the mysterious woman’s identity.
Neither side can express themselves clearly, resulting in a big misunderstanding. Jae-gyu says it is tough to wait, implying that he wishes to date Bom right away. But she assumes he is fed up with waiting and suggests they cancel their deal. In fact, Bom wants some assurance that Jae-gyu is waiting for her out of love. But he misinterprets her words as disliking him and wanting to back out of their deal.
It is only when Jae-gyu drops by the locksmith’s to apologize and hears the full story that he finally realizes how far Bom went to help him. Confronting her, Bom bursts into tears and expresses her jealousy. And Jae-gyu argues he can’t wait any longer. Why wait two years when they can get together now?
Spring Fever Episodes 5 and 6 Musings
We could have been spared a lot of angst had our leads communicated properly. Still, those misunderstandings were in line with their characters. It is Jae-gyu’s first time dating so it is only natural that he doesn’t understand women. And Bom’s trauma has her wary of others. So, it isn’t easy for her to open up.
Now that our leads are an item already, we hope the drama concludes the love triangle quickly and focuses instead on Jae-gyu and I-jun’s backstory and the reason for their fallout. There are hints that I-jun did something bad to Jae-gyu in the past but the drama holds back the details. Also, who on earth is that mysterious woman? And what is her deal with Jae-gyu? Regardless of who she is, we want her gone from the plot so we can enjoy the budding romance between our leads.
