The Forbidden Marriage Episode 8 Highlights

“I will decide where I want to be.”

Drawing a line from Lee Heon after his surprising kiss, Sorang challenged him if his feelings are real. Walking away, she ponders on her situation with the king. She met the Queen Dowager who eloquently gave her options.

While contemplating, Shin-won arrives to cover her with something warm. He also promises that he’ll hide his feelings so they won’t be seen through.

Later, Shin-won visits the Seo family residence to continue investigating about the abducted women’s case. His right hand ends up talking to Lady Seo when the pieces of jewelry they were looking for were found.

At night, Lee Heon cutely bothers Sorang who wants to keep the distance between them intact. Watching her doze off, Lee Heon realized something based on her words. He rationalizes that she already has feelings for him.

The Forbidden Marriage

“I think these are feelings of being in love.”

The next day, he wakes up glowing brightly to a degree that even his eunuch and secretary notice an extraordinary glow.

Alone with Secretary Kim, he adorably muses how the glow he’s seeing he assessed to be brought by feelings of love.

He also brings up his problem of how he can give her a sincere love confession. Fortunately for the king, his chief secretary is equipped with planning skills and they work on drafting and executing the perfect love confession.

He tells Sorang that she will be joining his entourage and going to his rest house in Onyang.

“You are not here as someone’s replacement. To me there was no one like you.”

Losing his vigor upon learning that Sorang wants to leave the palace, Chief Secretary Kim asserts the king to understand the reason behind that.

Lee Heon goes to find her and make reassurance that her feelings are truly returned. That she is cherished by him more than she can imagine. Asking her not to leave, he kisses her with all the love he has which she gladly accepts.

Bringing her to a flower garden that Lee Heon’s team helped to prepare, the king sealed his confession with a bouquet of flowers and a fireworks display.

Later, they confess to each other the time they fell in love. Interestingly, both fell in love while watching each other sleep.

The Forbidden Marriage

“You should have given it to her first. You’ll never know what will happen in our line of work.”

Unknown to Shin-won, his suspicion that someone might have been bribed by the enemies is true. Chun-seok forcedly agreed to be on Madam Ye’s side when she used Hyeyoung as a bargaining chip.

Fortunately, Chun-seok’s loyalty kicks in and alerts him to be at Lee Heon’s side right away or he could be in danger. He also took an arrow meaning for Shin-won which led to his demise.

Although found in time by Lee Heon, his best friend was poisoned beyond repair by the assassin sent by the villains. Leaving his post, both Sorang and Lee Heon learn of the disheartening truth that Shin-won won’t be able to protect anymore.

The Forbidden Marriage Episode 8 Musings

Down to the last two weeks of The Forbidden Marriage, the conflict escalates as the antagonists begin their attack.

Shin-won meaningfully trusting his friend to take care of the butterfly they both care for makes a befitting closure to his unrequited love for Sorang who already come clean about who she really wants. In all honesty, Shin-won’s character was not as compellingly drawn in this series. Whether it is being saved for last, we will have to wait.

Nevertheless, given the 12-episode run, it’s nice that the friendship he shared with Chun-seok was also highlighted in this episode. We know for sure that Shin-won won’t give up on bringing justice to his death without a fight.

Still, details of Sorang’s conversation with Queen Dowager give an unsettling feeling. Does the Queen Dowager have something brewing up in the nearing marriage selection?

Also, despite the villains bluntly putting forward their evil nature, the picture of their power sometimes feels overly done.

Now that Lee Heon and Sorang mutually affirm their love for each other, it’s not going to be sweet along the way.
