The King’s Affection Episode 14 Key Moments

“Two months will be enough. I will not say anything or express any of my feelings.”

Desperate to protect Yi Hwi, Ji-un visits his father and requests help to find him a position in the palace.

Whereas, Seok-jo believes that he does not belong in the palace because he is aware of the difference between right and wrong, he understands that what is right is not necessarily the correct answer. He believes that people like him would not survive in the palace but Ji-un promises that he will adapt to that world.

Seok-jo then makes a visit to Yi Hwi’s grandfather, who is now the Chief State Councilor, and requests permission for his son to be near the king. However, Lord Sangheon informs him that his son attempted to take the king and leave, and that he should be grateful that he did not punish him.

During their conversation, Seok-jo reminds Lord Sangheon of his promise when he took someone’s life for him. As his goal has been accomplished, he believes it is Seok-jo’s turn to grant his request to obtain a job for his son in the palace as a reward.

The following day, on Yi Hwi’s early walk, she encounters Scribe Ji-un. Ji-un assures Yi Hwi that he will remain near her for two months until her wounds heal. He also intends not to speak to her or express any of his feelings.

“Please continue to let me handle these burdensome matters so that you can give your full attention to producing an heir.”

Throughout the court discussion, Lord Sangheon appears to seize control of every palace decision, leaving Yi Hwi to comply with anything he says.

After the meeting, Lord Sangheon approaches Yi Hwi to see if he has upset her. He subsequently explains that due to the urgency of the situation, he failed to inform Yi Hwi and handled it himself.

Showing no argument with her grandfather’s ways, Yi Hwi only expresses that she respects what he is doing on her behalf as a king.

Correspondingly, Lord Sangheon asks Yi Hwi to allow him to continue handling the burdensome duties so she can devote her full attention to producing an heir. He also encourages Yi Hwi to strengthen her political realms for the sake of the late King.

This definitely means someone secretly hoarded some of it or someone was trying to secretly use the cargo ship for a private matter.”

At the royal institute, Scribe Ji-un is listening to his previous fellow tutors regarding the proper distribution of rice to the army. According to one tutor, the responses they received from the provinces indicate that they received fewer.

His colleague is certain that someone has either covertly stored some of the rice or is attempting to utilize the cargo ship for private purposes.

However, the Chief Royal Secretary warns them to mind their words because the person they referenced is the Minister of Taxation, who is on Lord Sangheon’s side.

Following their discussion, the Chief Secretary instructs Ji-un to bring some items to the Royal History Archive.

On his way to the archives, he sees Eunuch Hong and Yi Hwi going somewhere. Consequently, Ji-un follows the two and learns that Yi Hwi is secretly meeting with officer Yoon.

Apparently, as Ji-un overhears officer Yoon and Yi Hwi conversing, it is true that Yi Hwi’s grandfather employs the Minister of Taxation to smuggle weapons through cargo ships. Although, Yoon advises Yi Hwi to take precautions in managing state business discreetly since she will put herself in danger if Lord Sangheon finds out.

The King’s Affection Episode 14 Musings

In comparison to other puppet kings we are familiar with, we can claim that Yi Hwi is the most courageous and clever in this episode, as she does not turn a blind eye to the welfare of her kingdom.

Additionally, she is aware of what is going on in state affairs and covertly meets with officer Yoon to expose her grandfather’s wrongdoings. This only increases our hope that her efforts will succeed and that justice will be served for the innocent lives Lord Sangheon has taken for power.

Likewise, we witness from this episode that the fated couple did not fail to make our hearts flutter when Yi Hwi, despite her totally healed wound, requests Ji-un to stay in the palace and be with him for a little longer.

Furthermore, as conflict is a certainty in each episode, we have Seok-jo picking up the pieces as he investigates Dam-i’s case and the prince he mistakenly killed, as well as confirming that the king is disguised as a woman.

Don’t miss Ji-un and Yi Hwi’s poignant palace romance in the latest episodes of The King’s Affection on Netflix!
