The King’s Affection Episode 16 Key Moments

“So tell me. Are they enjoying each other’s company?”

While out on a morning walk with Ji-un, who appears to be slightly disturbed earlier in the court, Yi Hwi inquires as to what is going on in his head.

Apologizing to Yi Hwi, Ji-un consequently informs her that he did not sleep well the night before. However, Eunuch Hong abruptly tells the two that the Queen is approaching them. When the Queen comes, she is with her friend So-eun, who is visiting her.

After parting ways with Yi Hwi, Ji-un travels to Seungjeongwon to conduct an investigation into the Busohwa plant that poisoned the late king. But, he is quickly brought to a halt as Ha-gyeong invites him to spend time with her and So-eun.

Looking puzzled as she notices Ji-un departing with the two women, Yi Hwi subsequently returns to her quarters. She recalls So-eun confessing to her about having feelings for someone else.

Interrupting her thoughts, Eunuch Hong offers to go to the Queen’s quarters and observe them. After giving the refreshments to the Queen and her companions, Eunuch Hong returns to Yi Hwi to report his observation. She impatiently inquires of him whether they are enjoying each other’s company.

Considering So-eun allowed him to work on his errands, Ji-un returns to the king’s office. Yi Hwi, surprisingly, sees Ji-un back as she thinks that the Queen’s reception is still ongoing.

Yi Hwi keeps saying strange things to Ji-un, including how much he enjoys their company, and when Ji-un expresses gratitude for the refreshments, she informs him that they are for the Queen, not for him. This brings a smile to Ji-un’s face since he believes Yi Hwi is jealous.

“When I had it in my mouth, I was able to forget all the fear I had about the palace.”

Seeking Yi Hwi’s permission to take a few days off to conduct a seasonal inspection, Seok-jo requests an audience with the king. Yi hwi approves of Seok-jo’s leaving, despite her suspicions.

Outside the king’s office, Yi Hwi speaks with Eunuch Hong regarding the seasonal inspection of Prince Jehyeon. Whereas, both of them believe that random inspections are absurd. Yi Hwi came to the conclusion that they should postpone their plan in Yeoyeon.

Continuing her walk, Yi Hwi spots Prince Jaeun. She remembers her talk with Court Lady Kim about Jaeun ceasing to visit her after learning her identity.

Calling Jaeun to have a conversation, Yi Hwi asks as to why he hasn’t visited her recently. She also adds that she reminds her of a time when Jaeun read her books when she was afraid.

Recalling the candy Jaeun gave her, it was the first time Yi Hwi tasted something sweet. When she had it in her mouth, Yi Hwi was able to forget about her fear of the palace.

Correspondingly, Jaeun assures Yi Hwi that he will bring her as much candy as she requires.

Relying on Jaeun ever since they were young, Yi Hwi wonders if he can continue treating her the way he used to. Jaeun responds to her that he will do so since Yi Hwi will forever be his king.

“Once the fog lifts, the view will become clear. If you have a destination you will reach it someday.”

Receiving the dreadful news from Kim Ga-on, who gives the ledger to her, Yi Hwi learns about Officer Yoon’s death. She sifts through the ledger, which contains evidence of the illegal weapons’ movement. The following morning, Yi Hwi pays her respects at Officer Yoon’s burial.

Extending her stay a bit longer, she asks Ga-on to accompany Court Lady Kim and Eunuch Hong back to the palace. Yi Hwi also expresses gratitude to Ga-on for coming back alive.

Afterwards, Yi Hwi feels like a fog is surrounding her. Illustrating that even when she arrives at her destination, she feels as though she is still a long way from it.

Consoling Yi Hwi, Ji-un assures her that if the fog clears, she would be able to achieve her destination someday.

While returning to the palace, Prince Changun, who has been alive the entire time, suddenly attacks Yi Hwi and Ji-un. Changun schemes with his nephew, Prince Wonsan, to usurp Yi Hwi’s kingdom.

Changun confronts them in sword combat while attempting to disrobe Yi Hwi in order to assert her identity.

Ji-un instantly wraps his arms around Yi Hwi to protect her. When Changun is about to strike them, Seok-jo appears out of nowhere to intervene and prevent Changun from harming Yi Hwi and his son.
