The Red Sleeve Episode 12 Key Moments

“You made a document as you had promised. And you hid it in a promised place.”

Upon their arrival at the court, the Queen informs them of the Document of Truth. When he appears to not recall what the Queen is saying, she permits Deok-im to speak with the King.

Just as Deok-im is about to say another word, she is cut short by the recently arrived Head Lady Cho. However, thunder and lightning came, which frightened the king.

Continuing talking concerning the document, Deok-im attempts to help the King, recalling the promise he made and where he hid it in a promised place.

Consequently, the King knew the exact location of the secret document, which he retrieved and read to everyone. He remembers the day he ordered the late Crown Prince’s death and, with regrets, vowed to protect Lee San and bestow upon him the kingdom.

“No matter what others think, as long as you could live the way you want, you will be happy.”

Fulfilling his promise, the King takes his final breath peacefully with Lee San alongside him.

Everyone in the palace is in mourning at the late King’s passing. Simultaneously, the East Palace’s court ladies are preparing to relocate to the King’s palace.

Following that, Deok-im and her friends discuss how dissimilar the deaths of Head Lady Cho and Royal Noble Consort Yeong were in the palace.

The four friends resume their discussion about Consort Yeong’s inability to live a happy life and her constant self-blame for killing her own son.

However, Deok-im reminds them that living one’s own life according to one’s desires is the key to a satisfying existence as a court maid.

“What I am saying right now is that I want you to be my consort. I will give you a few days. Give it some thought.”

With Lee San now seated on the throne and in charge of state affairs, he was unable to communicate with Deok-im about their feelings.

He subsequently instructs her to wait in his office for his decoction since Deok-im insists that a court lady must witness the drink being consumed.

After Deok-im serves Lee San and is about to leave, he stops her and informs her that he wishes for her to remain by his side as a woman, not as a court maid. He also gives her the opportunity to be his consort, and he later confesses that he hoped to have a family with Deok-im.

The Red Sleeve Episode 12 Musings

The Red Sleeve episode 12 placed a strong emphasis on the emotions of  the main characters moving in the story. Despite his grandfather’s cruel treatment of him, Lee San demonstrated his grief at the prospect of the King leaving him.

Similarly, Princess Hwawan’s meltdowns and sorrow upon her son’s departure allowed her to remain in the palace.

We also witnessed in this episode how Deok-im expresses her sadness as she struggles to equate her willingness to be Lee San’s consort with her desire to live a happy life.

Furthermore, Deok-im’s undeniable capacity to restore what has been lost amuses us with how powerful she can be, even as a court maid. With the King suffering from dementia, she was able to assist him in recalling the secret promise.

Although Head Lady Cho atoned for her misdeeds by taking her own life, a threat to Lee San’s life still exists in this chapter due to the secret society’s continued existence.

Above all, we saw in the preview for episode 13 that Deok-ro’s power and greed have grown, which will certainly create a strain on Lee San and Deok-im’s relationship.
