The Secret Romantic Guesthouse Episodes 9 and 10 Highlights

“At the tavern that day, we didn’t meet by chance. I went there because I missed you.”

Confessing who he really is, San later shares with Dan-oh his plans for getting closer to the throne. He wants to protect the palace so that all the deaths that happened to protect him will be redeemed.

Meanwhile, Yu-ha retrieves the keepsake mentioned by Hwa-ryung from the box his adoptive mother gave him. There was also a letter written by the then-Crown-Prince.

It turns out that Yu-ha is also the son of the Crown Prince that was hidden away when he was young. His mother is also unknown.

When he speaks with Lord Shin who suggests he takes the identity of Lee Seol in the meantime, Yu-ha initially refuses. But Lord Shin implores the urgency of the situation.

Master Jang also meets with the King to present the compass passed on to young Lee Seol which was given to Dan-oh. Prior to his meeting with the King, he also met with Yuk-ho to offer him career help if he will keep an eye on Dan-oh.

The evil master got information from Banya about Dan-oh’s search for a boat that would travel to China. Her goal is to push San to leave the country. But San declines her request as he intends to fulfill his duty as the rightful heir to the throne.

“Dan-oh, you are the last memory of mine that does not hurt to remember.”

After his first day at work, San sees Dan-oh outside and reminisces how the bright lantern attracted his young self to hide inside their house.

Genuinely appreciating the help Dan-oh extended that day, he tells her that it was the last beautiful memory he cherishes.

From the information the King got from Master Jang, he summons Dan-oh to the palace. Seeing her made San worry but the King let her go out of respect for his old teacher who is Dan-oh’s father and even gave her a gift of the finest silk fabrics. He also tells her to visit the palace every now and then to tell him stories.

Lord Shin convinces Lee Seol’s eunuch to connive with the plan to bring Yu-ha to take the throne. Thus, Yu-ha also alerts the other members of Mokinhoe.

Armed with a mission to help her sister, Hong-ju goes to the tavern to try and recruit scholars to stay at the inn.

On the day of the announcement of state exam passers, Yu-ha and Yuk-ho successfully got in.

“It is my pleasure to meet the King.”

Elated at the great news, they plan on a feast but find a palanquin waiting outside. Dan-oh was again summoned by the King who played baduk with her.

Later, Master Jang reports about the scattered posts in the city presumed to be by Lee Seol’s camp.
King Lee Chang remains confident of his plan to be closer to Dan-oh to scare Lee Seol.

Tasked to bring Dan-oh home, San softly chides her for being overly brave knowing the King’s infamous temper. He also whines about her smiling while playing baduk and conversing with the King. He reminds her not to smile with her beautiful eyes to any man.

Mokinhoe advances to a general assembly that would name Yu-ha as the deposed heir. Lord Shin asks if he has a change of heart, but Yu-ha is determined more than ever.

One of the palace guards associated with Master Jang picks on San’s real identity as an adopted son when the man he asked to vouch for him was pressured to reveal the truth.

Lured to a place by the same man, San meets the guards and confronts a one-versus-many battle. Just then, the Watchman appears to help obliterate his opponents.

Commanding the watchman to show his face, San gets the surprise of his life when Si-yeol reveals his face.

The Secret Romantic Guesthouse Episodes 9 and 10 Musings

Rightly on time to keep the engrossing state of its viewers, The Secret Romantic Guesthouse sparingly gifted us with a string of plot twists that truly enthuses us.

From the looks of it, Hwa-ryung is Yu-ha’s mother. Hopefully, she won’t complicate things and support Yu-ha’s noble cause if his group plans would proceed.

Unaware of her position in the looming throne battle, Dan-oh might become the tipping point for the half-brothers to stake everything in dethroning the evil King.

It is great that the series untangled the Lee Seol guessing game this week to give more freedom to an avalanche of scenarios ahead. Given the heavy weight of the politics in the story, the crumbs of romance we’re getting are a breath of fresh air.

Wanting to ask for more when there’s a tyrant King to be subdued is a bit of a stretch. But at least the pacing foresees an allowance for some romantic moments for people waiting for it.

The blossoming connection between Si-yeol and Hong-ju might face an agonizing point if she learns that he was the cause of the death of her former beloved. Relevantly, the all-knowing Master Jang would get a whiff that his son’s supposedly dead fiancée, and would pose another concern for the Yoon sisters.

Can Mokinhoe make a brave step to dethrone the King? Will San work together with his half-brother?

Hang out with Dan-oh and the flower boy scholars at Garden of Flowers every Monday and Tuesday in The Secret Romantic Guesthouse. International fans can watch it on Viu.
