The Veil

The Veil Episode 6 Key Moments

“There is someone behind this. We have to reinvestigate.”

Sitting alone inside a cell, Han Ji-hyuk contemplates on his memory and the video captured by CCTV. Director Kang brings Ji-hyuk’s condition to NIS Chief Bang Young-chan after failing to get it through DC Do. But the latter pushes for investigation since CCTV evidence is unreliable.

Chief Bang proceeds to have Director Kang take Ji-hyuk. Treating him with ox-bone soup meal, Director Kang refuses to answer Ji-hyuk’s question of who shot Su-yeon. It turns out that Su-yeon’s last words to Ji-hyuk are not to trust anyone especially Director Kang. Ji-hyuk escapes the vehicle and goes, insurgent. He left his gun with a bullet left for when they will meet again.

Chief Ha reports to DC Do of what happened to Director Kang who claimed he was shot by Ji-hyuk. Thus, there’s a shoot-to-kill order on him. Meanwhile, Domestic Intelligence Bureau DC Lee In-hwan orders Director Jung Yong-tae to cover up Jung Ki-sun’s case against the latter’s suggestion.

At Crime Information Center, the team was ordered to destroy the files from Ki-sun’s case despite a clear video showing her entrance to China.

“Just like you. You and my dad went through almost identical incidents. My dad went missing in Shenyang too during his mission.”

Ji-hyuk seeks shelter at Je-yi’s place and finds her investigation wall. She reveals what happened to her father who is also an agent sharing the same strange incident that happened to Ji-hyuk.

Unlike Director Kang who did not ask if he shot Su-yeon, Je-yi asked him about it. He responds not being sure of himself but he thinks he saw someone who really shot Su-yeon. Chief Ha reports to DC Do about the evidence showing Ji-hyuk did not shoot Director Kang.

But DC Do opts to wait for the right time and hides the evidence. Tracing the real person who shot Su-yeon, Ji-hyuk faces another dead end when the culprit bit his tongue after being cornered by him.

Je-yi mulls over Chang Chun-woo just as Ji-hyuk feeds him the next target to be Jung Ki-sun. Someone from the organization seems intent to kill Jung Ki-sun because she knows something that would implicate the office.

Tracking a former lead researcher of a defunct NIS project, “Deep Fake”, Ji-hyuk learns of a technology that can tamper “Deep Fake”. Unfortunately, for Ji-hyuk to be absolved of the frame-up prepared for him, he has to retrieve the original CCTV video.

“You know that he’s the kind of person who can turn the tables no matter what he’s up against with.”

Je-yi and Ji-hyuk mark Jung Ki-sun as the starting point to aid in clearing his name. Striking a deal with the NIS, Ji-hyuk demands a meeting alone with Ki-sun. Director Kang, Chief Ha and others convene for the strategy they will use to capture the NIS escapee.

With snipers on standby, Ji-hyuk makes a move. Their plan involves former “Deep Fake” technology creator tampering with the CCTV videos since Ji-hyuk already deduced that the monitoring would be through surveillance cameras.

Taking Ki-sun at a safe place, he learns of the tip the reporter had about the NIS internal leak. It points to Chang Chun-woo who also works with Sangmuhoe, a group of former NIS agents. He meets with Chun-woo with leverage that would put the latter in danger. Thus, he was able to retrieve the original file.

Getting a call from Je-yi that Su-yeon woke up, Ji-hyuk rushes to the hospital only to meet a vacant bed and the news of Su-yeon’s death from Director Kang.

The Veil Episode 6 Musings

I live for the plot twists of The Veil each week, to be honest. It’s like the whole cast surrounding Ji-hyuk went to the same seminar on how-to-perfectly-deceive.

Je-yi’s ending scene seems suspicious. Given the level of curveballs the series has paraded so far, I would rather wait for the episode next week to get a clearer picture. Yes indeed, midway to the story, The Veil has provided me a structured training on how to be skeptical.

Ji-hyuk serving a dose of the same medicine to the false charge was an excellent move in this mind-games-laden series. But episode 6 cliffhanger just took all the cake for this episode. For anyone who’s suspicious if your lover is having an affair, The Veil is such a great drama to amplify your guarded nature.

This episode also introduced Sangmuhoe in the picture. If it is a group of retired NIS agents, would it be connected to Je-yi’s father? I am leery about Su-yeon’s death since this series has really trained me not to trust vague information. A small part of me wants her to live because she only showed up a little, and mostly angsty, so I want to see more of her in action.

Reading Ji-hyuk’s thoughts is no easy feat because of his malfunctioned memory and ambiguous hallucinations. Based on episode 7 preview though, it seems another twist will welcome viewers next week. Hats off to the editing team of this drama for the superb thrill and decking of the puzzlers.

The Veil gives us the real deal on a tightly written story portrayed impeccably. So far, we could not ask for more but plead for Ji-hyuk’s memory to come back so he can efficiently set forth his meaningful retribution.

  1. Totally agree, this show provided me a training on how to be tactially skeptical too. And same with Ji-Hyuk’s mantra not to trust anyone, I’d rather not trust the ending scene yet. Great musings here! Keep it up 🙂

    1. Thank you for the warm words. We are lucky The Veil is only 12 episodes. I’m lost every week, but craves for it nonetheless. : )
