“When there’s a lot in your mind, it’s better to tire yourself out and get a good night’s sleep.”

Supporting Chan-young on her first filming day, Mi-jo and Joo-hee had an eventful fangirling moment securing autographs and a friendly chat with Im Si Wan.

Unable to render her adorable friends, Chan-young has quite a handful with her overprotective oppa bringing in assistants and all when she’s just doing a supporting role.

Later, Jin-seok also met with Sun-joo for a closure talk. She informs him that she will bring their son abroad to study since her family is furious about their divorce. Relenting to Chan-young’s request to meet Ju-won, Jin-seok brings him to meet her and she gave him a book gift.

Bringing presents to the children at the orphanage, Mi-jo and Seon-woo spent happy times with the children. Seon-woo gives an English class and was approached by Hoon, a little boy close to Mi-jo. He reveals that his the little cupid that made his love story possible.

“I’m always the last to know. I can take it together with you guys. Why do you guys suffer first and wait until the last moment to tell me things? To be honest, I’m scared of Chan-young leaving us. I’m also scared that things might not be the same between us once she’s gone.”

Opening up about her bottled thoughts, Joo-hee met with Mi-jo and clarify that her mom is not to blame for her current concerns. When Mi-jo reassures her that everything is okay, Joo-hee finally opens her heart and reveals how much she feels so left out.

Thirty Nine Episode 10 Musings

The thought of saying goodbye to Thirty Nine is hard to process. We truly had a K-Drama gift witnessing the stories of the characters in this series.

Rooting for Mi-jo’s plan to implore her birth mom’s last thread of decency seems to be one of the hardest problems to be tackled in the story.

Taking a tamed narrative route, this drama has been teaching us a lot about patience and kindness. That being said all the detestable characters, we can’t help but also understand.

This episode brought another quiet and resounding emotional scene between Lee Mu Saeng and Jeon Mi Do. If I hadn’t mentioned it before, it’s hard not to notice the effort of the entire cast in creating nuanced portrayals.

I’m still hoping that Joo-hee would get a love a happy ending and I’m so proud of her bravery to confront her emotions. Her predicament gives a resonating nudge to anyone who has a circle of close friends.

Having disappointments left unsaid is a sure part of a human relationship, no matter how honest or happy it might have been. If we pile up those instances that we already assessed that negative feeling but chose to forego, chances are it will burst out eventually.

Aside from shedding light on the feelings of adopted people, Thirty Nine intersperses lessons on self-worth. In particular on claiming inner peace that the three featured friends rightfully deserve.

Don’t miss the last two episodes of Thirty Nine on Netflix!
