Through The Darkness

The birth of an unprecedented team working on criminal behaviors expectedly earns unregarded treatment from the structured police system in the latest episodes of Through The Darkness.

Albeit proving their smarts can help solve almost hopeless cases, more of their efforts seem needed for the recognition they deserve.

Through The Darkness Episode 3 & 4 Key Moments

The Newly Established Behavioral Analysis Team

Introducing another team member of the newly-organized Behavioral Analysis Team, Song Ha-young and Captain Kook Young-soo welcome Jung Woo-joo (Ryeoun). He is a statistics analyst that is clueless about the new work he will tackle in an unheard-of department.

His pioneer seniors start collating information from prisoners to obtain data of criminals’ behaviors. When a new case of a mutilated young girl emerged, Ha-young and Young-soo hope to be part of the investigation.

It even coincides with the recent interview they had with a prisoner who also amputated his lover in 24 parts.

Unfortunately, they struggle to get in the loop of the ongoing investigation. Specifically, special crime lead investigator, Yoon Tae-gu (Kim So Jin) insists on not needing their team’s help.

BAU Finds Crucial Clue To A Critical Case

Almost a month after finding the dismembered body parts, and no progress has been made in the case. When Captain Kook stumbles on how the body of the victim was frozen, Tae-gu relents to give them access to the investigation.

Subsequently, they end up joining the investigation since the police force is short-staffed. Team BAU decides to write a report profiling the potential criminal of the case. Unofficially, they also work together for the investigation. As a pilot team, they need to prove their use to prolong the existence of their team.

By utilizing the profiling report Ha-young made, they narrow down the possible culprits. Eventually, they found the identity of the culprit that has since left his rented place.

Pieces of evidence have been obtained from his house as well. But what’s baffling is how he’s been disposing of the body parts at different places and times.

Continuing their neighborhood checks for possible clues, So-jin and her underling, fortunately, stumbles on the elusive lawbreaker.

Through The Darkness Episode 3 & 4 Musings

For their first case, the newly-formed BAU unit is pumped to realize their vision. Hopefully, the team’s worth would be recognized and the planned disbandment won’t proceed.

Criminal profiling was introduced in this week’s episodes of Through The Darkness. If you’re a fan of police-procedural dramas, you can easily assess the familiarity of this series’ flavor.

Admittedly, my interest was piqued for this series because of its initial pitch or presenting the formative years of South Korea’s BAU. Honestly though, while we can’t complain about the portrayals so far, the cases are so far modestly done.

It would benefit the flow of the series if viewers get ample peek into the outdated police investigation procedures that are still viable right now.

Sprinkling scenarios of current know-how that can be traced from the errors or intentional process developments from the past are also welcome.

Episode 4 gives a hint at another serial killer to tackle as well as Team BAU’s professed goal of catching an evasive serial killer.

Whether this drama would proceed to various case-digging or if it will have a projected main conflict, we still have to find out. Despite its unimposing presence, it strangely keeps your attention glued.

Through The Darkness will only run for 12 episodes. Make sure you catch up on its latest chapters on Viu!
