Would You Ĺike a Cup of Coffee Episode 2 Key Moments

Signed, sealed and all set to sail, Kang Gobi becomes Park Seok’s apprentice. Patiently training the eager hew-hire, the seasoned barista answers Gobi’s queries about coffee-making while touring him inside the shop.

Beaming while welcoming the coffee shop’s regular customers, they were quite surprised to see a new face. Nonetheless, they are happy for a new member to help the meticulous coffee shop owner.

For his first lesson, Gobi confronts the right blend and preparation for an espresso. Staying up all night to figure the right formula, he still struggles the next day.

“There are times when you gain encouragement when someone understands what you’re going through.”

Ji-young, a coffee shop regular, who visited the night before has been working like a dog. After arriving from a business trip, she was asked to do the report right away. When she sees the coffee shop is still open, she pleads for Gobi for an espresso not knowing he’s still not proficient in fixing one.

She arrives the next day like she was not served by Gobi with a bad cup of coffee, and volunteers to be his coffee taster. After a round of coffee he served, Gobi still can’t get the correct mix. Park Seok patiently gives him lessons on the gaps he missed. Just then, a call from Ji-young’s work changed the mood of Gobi’s coffee reviewer.

Would You Ĺike a Cup of Coffee Episode 2 Musings

Giving an elaborated behind-the-scene about coffee-making, Would You Like a Cup of Coffee made me appreciate all the hardworking and patient baristas after watching this episode.

And yes, this episode is about appreciating work and letting go of one that does not make you happy.

Love your work and it will love you back. In our life, we can opt for one single career, or go for different jobs along the way. Every time, its meaning to us equates to the happiness we receive and the love and effort we can pour to aspire in becoming a perfect worker for the job we choose.

Ji-young realizes how she was undervalued in subtle and glaring ways at work. That is after going beyond what is expected of her.

Inadvertently, Gobi’s espresso brewing that is done with utmost dedication, following instructions and careful preparations still can’t satisfy her. It mirrors how Ji-young sustains her heavy workload, yet it can’t seem to get the gratification she hopes for.

The job we choose to love or choose to love our job?

Settling to a job is equal parts choice and determination. Once you made the decision, you have to follow it up with diligence. The moment you start feeling overwhelmed about your work and underappreciated despite your efforts, ignoring it is not healthy.

Admitting you picked the wrong option and finding work that is stress-free is not easy. Confucius was really right when he said,  “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

Unlike Gobi, who recently rediscovered his passion to become a true barista, Ji-young who can’t hold out the work pressure speaks to how little passion she probably has for her job. That leaves us to consider selecting a job that aligns with our interests or skill set.

I’m also baffled why I’m so pumped up extracting the underlying messages of this series. Despite its quick chapter run, the narrative has this ability to make you ponder the “meaning of life”. *grin

Motivating and consoling, Would You Like a Cup of Coffee might be the quick dose of story you need, to find your muse back.

Next week, Lee Kyu Hyung will make a special appearance in the series, and it sure made me miss my favorite Prison Playbook jailbirds.
