Would You Marry Me Episodes 7 and 8 Highlights

“Does it bother you that I like you?”

Resuming with Woo-ju’s confession, Me-ri is rather stunned, going from wondering why he would like her (she is a divorcee and his family won’t approve of her) to asking Woo-ju about his savings and where he lives, since you know marriage needs money, and she can’t separate dating from marriage. Me-ri is jumping the gun with marriage plans, getting Woo-ju flustered. He even asks her to forget everything he said. But Me-ri stays up thinking back on it and regrets blurting those words.

Since she doesn’t hate that he likes her, Woo-ju begins his mission to woo Me-ri. From picking her up and giving her a ride home to buying her flowers and showing her his childhood diaries to assure her he was diligent at saving money even as a kid. But while flipping through the diaries, Me-ri notices a girl’s name popping up occasionally and gets jealous of Woo-ju’s first love, wholly oblivious that it was her.

“You have gone crazy. This makes you an accomplice.”

The heavy pour has Woo-ju sleeping over, treating us to a teeny bit of cohabitation. And guess who else is sleeping out that night? It is Jin-gyeong who gets wasted, and poor Sang-hyeon has to take care of her and put up with her drunken antics. The next morning, Jin-gyeong, on her way out of Sang-hyeon’s house, runs into our fake couple in matching t-shirts, and Woo-ju is forced to spill the truth.

Mad, Jin-gyeong urges Woo-ju to pull out of his deal with Me-ri, calling him an accomplice. But while it is understandable for Jin-gyeong to worry about Woo-ju, she oversteps her boundaries by contacting Me-ri behind his back and asking her to end things with Woo-ju.

Revealing both that he is a chaebol heir and his childhood connection with Me-ri, Jin-gyeong claims Woo-ju only helped Me-ri since he feels bad and wants to pay her back. At least she has the sense to tell Woo-ju everything right away. And he bolts out to look for Me-ri. (Jin-gyeong tries to stop Woo-ju, claiming what he feels toward Me-ri is guilt, not love. Yet he doesn’t listen to her nonsense.)

“Do you still have the stuffed doll I gave you?”

Following her conversation with Jin-gyeong, Me-ri gets dejected and heads to her hometown, partly because of her father’s upcoming death anniversary but mostly to stay away from Woo-ju. Not even a few hours pass before he locates her, though. Me-ri assures Woo-ju she doesn’t blame him for her father’s death. So, he doesn’t need to feel bad or keep helping her. But he isn’t doing it because he is sorry, but because he likes her. And whatever Me-ri does, Woo-ju wants to stay by her side.

After catching up on what happened during their time apart, Woo-ju spends the night at Me-ri’s family’s house. Me-ri’s mother is fond of her “son-in-law,” feeding him Korean hen. But she also makes it clear that Woo-ju should cherish Me-ri and that his family should accept her and treat her with respect. Otherwise, she won’t stand for it. (Side note: Me-ri tells her mother that Woo-ju was the kid from that night, but leaves out the chaebol heir part to avoid putting pressure on her.)

Tagging along as they visit Me-ri’s father’s urn, Woo-ju finally gets to thank his savior. It is heart-melting how Me-ri’s mother says that Me-ri’s father did well by saving Woo-ju. He basically brought our leads together. She didn’t blame Woo-ju but felt sorry that he had to lose his parents at a young age. She is rather proud that he grew into a fine man. Woo-ju is finally getting the family warmth he couldn’t feel before.

“At that time, I thought the house was my only resort.”

Pondering on it, Me-ri resolves to come clean about being a divorcee to Sang-hyeon. At best, she would have to return the house and get it over with. But the worst-case scenario is being sued for fraud. Still, she wants to stand tall in front of Woo-ju and his family. After getting abandoned by the ex-fiancé, Me-ri thought the townhouse was her only resort. But she now has Woo-ju by her side.

As for the debts, Me-ri will work hard to repay them, and Woo-ju promises to wait for her until then. But those two might get caught dating as soon as tomorrow, given the way Woo-ju acts. He is another fool in love.

Speaking of getting caught, the ex-fiancé figures that Woo-ju and Me-ri are in a relationship and plots to expose Woo-ju for power abuse and dating a business partner. But just as he is about to execute his plan, he learns Woo-ju is the company’s successor and backs out. Though we doubt he will stay put for long before causing trouble again.

“I hate deceiving people more than anything.”

Meanwhile, Woo-ju’s grandmother invites over the marketing team and Me-ri and her assistant for a meal. It goes smoothly at first, yet Me-ri turns pale when Grandmother mentions hating those who lie and deceive others for their personal gain. It gets worse when they run into Jin-gyeong on the way out. In her defense, Jin-gyeong only visited as a doctor to check on Grandmother. But Me-ri gets upset after hearing there is marriage talk between Woo-ju and Jin-gyeong.

Fortunately, Jin-gyeong realized her wrongdoing (meddling childishly and making things worse for everyone) and decided to move on from Woo-ju, telling Grandmother as such. But Me-ri doesn’t know this yet and feels sad. Still, this isn’t the worst thing that happens. As we end this week, the ex-fiancé drops by the townhouse, marriage certificate in hand. And it seems he knows everything.

Would You Marry Me Episodes 7 and 8 Musings

With lots of sweetness between our now-real couple, we expected to end on a cliffhanger. But it still hit hard. That guy is selfish and brazen. So, it won’t be a surprise for him to demand the entire house and to get together with Me-ri. Still, we hope our girl holds her own and doesn’t let this nasty guy push her around. She already decided to get it all out in the open. So perhaps that is the best option now. And given how Sang-hyeon is starting to warm up to Jin-gyeong, maybe he will show some understanding to our leads as well, right?
