K-Drama Review: “One The Woman” Darts Amusing Dark Horse Story Fueled By A Dauntless Heroine

One The Woman

One The Woman proves the famed saying that what goes around comes around!

And we mean this in the bad and good ways. Misdeeds and injustice always haunt back while kind and righteous actions reap eventual blessings.

Streaking hilarious comedy with evident cast synergy, this series generated quite an audience and impressive ratings for consistently bringing out its A-game.

When she regains her memory, she decides to keep her status as it would help her with her ultimate wish of bringing justice to what happened to her loved ones.

However, it is no easy feat since the ambitious eldest daughter of Hanju Group, who caused irreparable damage to her family, is also keen to stop her from bringing down the company she so wanted to be on top of.

One The Woman Final Episode Recap

“People make mistakes. What matters is you don’t commit the same mistake twice.”

Through Lawyer Noh’s information, Sung-hye’s inauguration as a new CEO went on without a hitch. Things are getting bleaker at Yeon-ju’s camp with their plans getting askewed. Meanwhile, Mina’s situation is also not going well.

Later, Yeon-ju meets Lawyer Noh who revealed how he was threatened by Sung-hye with his dark secret. That and his financial situation have left him no choice but to disregard loyalty. He also spiked her drink and she woke up with Sung-hye in front of her.

Pleading Sung-hye to come clean with her crimes and connivance with Prosecutor Ryu, the villainess mocks her request and proudly claims she never did the dirty work but gave only the orders.

It turns out that the script Yeon-ju created involved Lawyer Noh pretending to switch to Sung-hye’s side. Along with providing the original evidence, she also volunteers to be abducted so they can publicly unveil Sung-hye’s atrocities.

Using video live streamers, they publicly broadcast the feed from the CCTV camera. Lawyer Noh got hold of pieces of evidence to seal the deal as well.

Secretary Jung who learned how Sung-hye has hindered his sister’s chance of getting a kidney transplant also changed his statement against his former boss.

Finding herself without anyone to help her, Sung-hye confronts her downfall.

“It doesn’t matter where am I or what I do. If I’m with the person I love, that is where I belong.”

Fortunately, Mina regains consciousness and meets the people who helped her. She thanked them genuinely and apologized for all the trouble she caused.

She also gets her payback for all the mistreatment she received from her mother-in-law. By shedding light on how her daughter killed her eldest son, Mina has sure made her life a living hell.

Ousting Chairman Han and his family members as the ruling family that runs Hanju group, Seung-wook reclaims what has always been his and becomes the new chairman. But eventually, he hired a management company to aid the business.

Sung-hye who fakes her suicide failed to escape Yeon-ju’s keen mind and was apprehended at the airport before she escapes to Vietnam.

Yeon-ju’s father also gets out of prison and settles to manage a new restaurant with her uncles. She also leaves the country to be with Seung-wook overseas.

One The Woman Series Highlights

Sprightly Female Lead

Honey Lee has owned that “swag female lead” badge with adorable hubris that we can’t help but smile about. Without her, I doubt the series could have pulled off the exciting momentum all throughout its run.

With a faint romance with Lee Sang Yoon’s character, her spirited portrayal, ultimately, led to the addicting factor of the series. Yeon-ju swerved from the typical K-Drama heroine prototypes by sticking to her own story. She was hellbent to achieve her goal and made sure to show the kind of compassion that went through convincing realizations.

One The Woman stamped its initial promise of bringing a “wonder woman” that is one-of-a-kind. Her story’s message resonates that determination and diligence to any type of goal always pay off.

One The Woman

Swift-Moving Comical Narrative

Never deviating from its animated run, One The Woman dawns its story about a prosecutor whose ultimate dream was to claim justice for her beloved grandmother.

Fate favors her and she gets a front-seat chance for her dream to come true. Along the way, she met allies who experienced the same grievance, and they set forth to defeat the remorseless adversaries.

Notably, the well-spread hilarious comedy helped in cushioning the dark tone of the story. It also complements the focused trajectory of the series, thereby locking its hooking appeal.

One The Woman

Entertaining Cast

Hats off to Jin Seo Yeon for being an amusing villain who established well her back story to explain her outlandish wickedness. Her presence created an engrossing drive and closure to the good versus evil theme of the story.

We surely would miss the dysfunctional Han family, the double-spy-oldies Miss Kim and Lawyer Noh, Yeon-ju’s clumsy gangster uncles and eye-candy prosecutor Yu-jun.

One The Woman effectively utilized the entire cast and made sure they are always aligned to the plot’s zesty vibe.

One The Woman Series Musings

One The Woman smartly maneuvered its engrossing story thanks to the interesting portrayals. Choosing not to go overboard, the series adhered to the standard writing with pleasing plot twists.

It was a long shot for the heroine of the narrative, seemingly an unlikely winner, her wits together with help from her dedicated people, prove that no man is above the law. That if justice can’t be served by the established rules, another form of justice can serve its purpose.

Mirthfully, the internal drama of each character is also a fun point in the series. We love Yeon-ju’s spontaneity as well as Sung-hye’s evil thought process. The rest of the main and supporting cast were also allowed to shine with their prearranged characterization.

Done with ample comedy, One The Woman innovates the paradigm of the current K-Drama trend featuring socially impaired families and disheartening power-struggle pursuit.

So, if you want a campy series with balanced family theatrics, humor and thrill, this latest SBS series might suit your taste.

  1. While the actors/actresses were pretty good, the core question of why there are two identical woman is never addressed. This could have been a key point to tie things together but it fizzled.

    1. It was explained in passing that they were just really doppelgangers. Yeon-ju asked her father about it as well. But, I also found the lack of individual moments for Mina for Yeon-ju and Mina before the latter went under surgery to change her face.
