K-Drama Review: “She Would Never Know” Proves That Love is Something You Cannot Hide

She Would Never Know delves deeper into the notion of silently loving a person without them knowing those furtive heart-fluttering moments you felt.

The drama slowly narrates the story of a hopeless romantic whose feelings are kept in for a long time. Braving the love odds, he finally musters the courage to claim that love.

She Would Never Know Plot Recap

Set in the world of cosmetics, Chae Hyun-Seung (Rowoon) is a handsome man who developed romantic feelings for his senior at work. Yoon Song-Ah (Won Ji Ah) is a beautiful woman who sets her mind on her duties.

However, Song-Ah never sees Hyun-Seung as a romantic partner but rather as a co-worker. Even though Song-Ah is way older than Hyun-Seung, he doesn’t mind their age gap and carries on his unspoken feelings for Song-Ah. He fell in love at first sight when he saw Song-Ah in a college job consultation.

Later on, Hyun-Seung was wondering why Song-Ah never laid her eyes on him. Only to find out that Song-Ah is in a secret relationship with Lee Jae-Shin (Lee Hyun Wook), their administrative manager.

Unintentionally, Hyun-Seung also found out that Jae-Shin is engaged to another woman. Contemplating what to do, Hyun-Seung confronts Song-Ah about the engagement because, for him, Song-Ah doesn’t deserve to be treated that way.

Along with this, Hyun-Seung couldn’t control his feelings anymore and decided to confess his long-term love for Song-Ah.

She Will Never Know Peak Points (Spoilers Alert!)

Going Through the Steps of Love

When watching dramas, I am fond of love stories in that the characters started as friends first. Even though She Will Never Know has slow pacing, I love how Song-Ah and Hyun-Seung went through the different phases of love.

Having a great admiration for Song-Ah, Hyun-Seung didn’t rush in confessing his feelings. He went through the hopeless romantic stage, wherein he’s satisfied just to see and be with Song-Ah. Through that, he got to know Song-Ah deeper, which is an important part of entering relationships.

Song-Ah also went into the heartbroken stage. I find it unnecessary for Hyun-Seung to confess his feelings right away after Song-Ah found out about his engagement of Jae-Shin. But then I realized that maybe for Hyun-Seung, it’s the perfect timing for Song-Ah to know that he’s there.

Even though at first, Song-Ah denied the heart of Hyun-Seung, he proved that his feelings are genuine. He stayed and respected the decision of Song-Ah until she realized that Hyun-Seung’s presence became a haven for her. Wherein she can be at peace and solace.

In the end, the couple wore wedding attires, and the wedding bells awaits them.

Mouthful of Life Lessons

Other characters have their struggles too. However, inevitably, they all resolved their conflicts and became better individuals.

For Jae-Shin, he attained his goal to stand up on his own feet without the influence of other people and learned to trust his skills. In the end, he opened his own cosmetics company.

Meanwhile, Joo-Bin (Lee Hyo Joo) is the ex-fiancé of Jae-Shin. At first, she pushes herself toward Jae-Shin, but she accepted that she can never have the heart of the man she loves. Admirably, she learns to love herself more and cleared things up with Jae-Shin to free themselves from guilt.

She Will Never Know goes beyond the usual romance because it offered different lessons, starting from acknowledging your skills, learning to love yourself, and more importantly, doing your best in moving forward in life.

She Will Never Know Series Musings

I must say that I got hooked up with this drama. Maybe, I’m just a person who likes taking things slow, especially in romantic relationships. Truth to be told, I can relate to Hyun-Seung because it’s imminent for us, the youth, to have someone we admire.

Especially in high school days, many teenagers are hopeless romantics. Wherein they are satisfied to sit just beside their crushes. Hyun-Seung also went to that phase, and fortunately, Song-Ah accepted his heart.

Age is not also a big deal for me in a relationship, Hyun-Seung set aside their age gap because he sees Song-Ah as someone he loves and not just an older sister. I just fell in love with Rowoon and Ji Ah’s characters, it gave me the impression that you can’t box your feelings because it demands to be felt by that person.

The series teaches how patience and mutual love are essential elements for a romantic relationship to thrive. It also presents the reality of how an individual can engage in a bad love before meeting the right one.

All in all, I love how the story ended, along with the character’s development. If you love watching romantic dramas with slices of advice about love, then She Would Never Know is waiting.
