In the convenience store, He took Hyeon Do (Choi Won Young) to persuade him to revise Doshin’s new plan. Through the triangle kimbap, he reminded him how the poor eat it for the whole day. However, He only thinks about the money they will acquire. For him, it’s only a small sacrifice for the citizens.

Turns out Hyeon Do (Choi Won Young) knew about Seung Cheon (Yook Sung Jae)’s golden spoon all this time.

“What matters more is who you are and whom you’re with.”

Na Ju Hee (Jung Chae Yeon) overheard that Seung Cheon (Yook Sung Jae) is back to his true identity. She immediately ran to him and took him to the beach. To catch him off guard, she said random memories they had together.

“It doesn’t matter what kind of car you drive, and what kind of house you live in. What’s more important is who your parents are,” Ju Hee assured him.

The Golden Spoon Quick Plot Recap

Lee Seung Cheon (Yook Sung Jae) is from a poor family. With his brilliant mind, he managed to study at Seoul Jeil High School, a prestigious school. To earn money, he would do his classmates’ school papers. He also has a part-time job at a convenience store.

Due to poverty, his best friend Jin-seok (Shin Joo Hyup) took his own life the day after his parents. The loan sharks are asking them to pay for their debt. They can’t also afford to settle their bills. At this moment, Seung-cheon was determined to get rich.

Desperate to fulfill his goal, he meets an old lady who sells a golden spoon for 30,000 won. “If you buy this golden spoon, you have the chance to change your parents. All you need to do is eat three meals with this gold spoon at the house of someone your age,” the old lady instructed. He immediately thought of Hwang Tae-yong (Lee Jong Won), the richest student in their school.

Like what the old lady said, the two characters switched lives after the third meal. Seung-cheon and Tae Yong were given three chances: one week, one year, and ten years to decide whether they still wanted their old lives back.

The Golden Spoon Series Highlights

Friendship

The affection among the characters will melt the viewer’s hearts. This became Seung-cheon’s drive to change his fate through the golden spoon.

Furthermore, Tae-yong had feelings for Ju-hee for a long time. Yet, he knew his limits and he respected her relationship with the real Seung-cheon.

Greed for Power

People either want the power to eradicate inequality or to satisfy their personal gain. In the case of The Golden Spoon, the characters preferred to do the latter.

Abusing power is evident in Seoul Jeil High. Park Jang-gun and his friends use their privilege to take advantage of the poor students.

In addition, most of the golden spoon holders didn’t know about the last rule as they didn’t visit the old lady after the third try. Chairman Na was even put to death to protect what Hyeon-do had.

Family Relationships

The different parenting styles influence a person’s behavior. Thus, the character’s personality reflects based on their family relationships.

Despite their social status, Seung-cheon’s parents showed that money can’t replace love and dignity. No matter how desperate they are, they still opt for what is ethical.

On the other hand, Ju-hee proved that being rich is not an excuse to disrespect anyone. Like his father, she has a big heart for everyone around her.

The Golden Spoon Series Musings

The Golden Spoon is a story about a chance to live somebody else’s life for one week, one month, one year, or until forever. Through fantasy, the drama showcases how it feels like to turn their wildest dream into reality.

Notably, it is an eye-opener for people who compare their life to other people. At times, we fail to acknowledge our blessings as we focus on the things we lack. The truth is, we only know a portion of a person’s life. Our imagination is way different from reality.

There is also a hint of romance among the characters which made the plot more interesting.

Relevantly, the writer showcased the different stories of the characters. It didn’t just focus on the life of the main characters. In this way, the viewers understand the reason behind their kindness, greed, and firm decisions.

However, the story became overwhelming as a lot of plot twists were revealed in the last episodes. It could’ve been more thrilling if it was unveiled one at a time.

Overall, The Golden Spoon is not complicated to watch and has a lot of life lessons to offer.  Young and young-at-heart audiences will surely find this worthwhile.
