The Veil

The Veil Finale Episode Recap

The bomb carrier at the memorial event is a decoy, and an EMP browser was launched in a building in Yeouido which backs up one of the country’s main banks.

Figuring out Baek Mo-sa’s intention, Je-yi reaches out to Ji-hyuk to meet at Paju where the bank’s main data server is located.

However, they weren’t able to enter the building. Baek Mo-sa publicized a video offering two choices for the government. One is the wipeout of the bank’s information or the death of the employees inside the building.

DC Do receives an order to prioritize finding the EMP bomb first than the hostages. But when Ji-hyuk and Je-yi assessed the EMP bomb is non-functioning, they were ordered for a change of plan to look for the hostages.

Racing Through Time

Je-yi suggests a plan to lure the tiny bit of his father’s consciousness by utilizing the broadcast room and playing his favorite music. It, fortunately, works as Ji-hyuk subdues the villain’s minions.

But the room where the hostages is kept can’t be opened. Baek Mo-sa communicates with Ji-hyuk about a bomb he can detonate and asks him to go to the rooftop.

With sniper on standby, Ji-hyuk was shot to his knee. Time ticks and the mind games ensue for the two agents. Ji-hyuk leads Baek Mo-sa to look at a big monitor and sees Je-yi as one of the hostages.

Offering the tiny bit of connection she has with her father, they were able to subdue Baek Mo-sa who reveals the detonator is actually a device to stop the bomb.

Torn whether to believe him or not, the sniper shoots Ji-hyuk. Thankfully, he was able to press the button and stop the bomb from detonating.

Barely mustering his strength, Ji-hyuk reveals the atrocities of Sangmuhoe to the country using a live feed. Thereby, obliterating a small number of corrupt agents in the organization.

The Veil Peak Points

Superbly Delineated Story

Spinning the narrative of The Veil is the cryptic disappearance of NIS agent Han Ji-hyuk (Namgoong Min) at a mission that wiped out his teammates and other agents. When he returns, his memory of the past year can’t be retrieved, but his situation gets more baffling when he receives a warning from himself not to trust anyone and how there’s a rat in the organization.

Getting to the bottom of his puzzling situation is hard because his true allies and vicious enemies are concealed in the most thrilling way. His mission to retrieve his memory and probe the internal deception prevalent in the organization he belongs to is mentally and emotionally investing.

Mind-Blowing Plot Twists

Mind games, unexpected double-dealings and impressive cliffhangers abound The Veil. The story seemingly throws a huge board of multiple puzzle games that are interconnected into one picture. This who-to-trust game engaged in by Ji-hyuk and Je-yi took the bulk of the addicting mood of the narrative.

The moment you enter the treacherous world of Ji-hyuk, be prepared to live for the curveballs of each episode. The drama’s fascinating thrilling bends is arguably the best for this season.

The Veil

Namgoong Min

The Veil puts a spotlight on the sacrifices of secret service agents risking their lives, but not getting the amount of gratitude they deserve. Most often than not, they function as replaceable tools of the government and the agency.

In the dark and doubtful world of Han Ji-hyuk, Namgoong Min made sure to convince us that we will always be there for him because his fictional world truly does not deserve him.

There was really a point in the story where you wish for all Namgoong Min’s villain characters to be summoned inside Ji-hyuk to reinforce him more. Because really, he can evoke any person’s protective instinct with the number of disappointments he had tackled.

Ultimately, Ji-hyuk’s story emphasized the truth that no human can escape from post-traumatic effects, even the most trained spy. Accordingly, he also reminds us that mistakes can happen, and while owning it cannot absolve you entirely, it is far better than ignoring it.

Expertly-Designed Action Scenes

Explosive fight scenes decorate The Veil in a well-distributed approach. It does not overwhelm the viewers by effectively fusing it into the narrative.

From brutal fistfights, high-octane car-chase scenes and remorseless gunfights; viewers would see the efforts in the detailed stage combat scenes.

Convincing Characterizations

Among the dramas I saw, this series was also the most meticulous in terms of utilizing the small, supporting and lead cast. There was no character that was indispensable in the series as the writing established all the characters’ connections fluidly.

Every relevant character in Ji-hyuk’s pursuit of the truth has a hidden agenda, secret motivations, and an eagerness to protect him or her first at the expense of other people.

We lost count of how many times the story villain shifted in the series. We can even qualify all of the main characters being hero-villains. Brilliantly efficient in their roles, The Veil has also featured a spectacular ensemble cast.

Admirably, even if this series introduced a lot of characters, and angles to the stories narrated through the perspectives of its big cast, it never faltered with its convincing momentum.

The Veil Series Musings

Keeping its momentum and intrigue at an excitingly high level, if you like spy-themed stories tinged with impeccable action sequences, drama and puzzling storylines – better join the ride offered by The Veil. It gives us the real deal on a tightly written story portrayed impeccably.

Despite treading on a relatively hard-to-grasp narrative, it feels intelligently written yet easily comprehensible. That’s one of the most admirable feats of the series. Additionally, albeit being dialog-heavy, it made sure that the viewer’s attention is locked to it.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see more of Kim Ji Eun’s drama exposure in the future. Just like I’m going to continuously pick every series Namgoong Min takes on.

Tracing the story of a disappeared NIS agent after vanishing in his last mission, The Veil consistently engrosses with its hero-centric story and surprising reversals. If you are looking for a mind-stimulating series, look no further. Book your weekend and see for yourself the hype it definitely deserves.
