“No one calls you a fool when you plow a barren field, sow seeds, and water the field because everyone knows that a big tree will grow and bear fruit. I trust that you won’t make the same mistake of cutting this small tree that has just begun to bloom.”

Dae-ryuk successfully finished his manuscript at the last moment. Not only does Dae-ryuk’s drawing change dramatically as he incorporates colors into his drawings, which is unusual for him, but everyone becomes emotional while reading his webtoon.

However, the biggest challenge remains in front of the team: to save their team from disbanding. The team worked hard to make the best presentation to convince the executives that their team could bring profits.

Luckily, the CEO of NEON always had faith in Man-chul and she admits that she learned what good leadership is from him.

Meanwhile, Man-chul meets with the executives and shows them the proposal for the webtoon service team’s future projects. He brings out his hidden card and reveals that they plan to open an affiliate company with Artist Na and appoint Ji-hyung as Co-CEOs.

Subsequently, after giving his heartfelt speech, the presentation convinces the executives, and they decide to keep the current team and not take over Youngtoon. This calls for trouble for director Heo, as he made a promise to Youngtoon’s CEO before the takeover.

As a result, the webtoon team is happy. However, during the team dinner, Man-chul announces that Ji-hyung will no longer be the deputy director but the CEO of a company. Obviously, the team is sad to let him go, especially Ma-eum, but they are happy for his success.

In addition to the success of the team, Ma-eum is no longer a contract worker but a full-time employee. Be it Ji-hyung or Ma-eum, both of them did not leave the team even when they had a chance and chose to fight together with the team and received good results for their dedication.

Also, thanks to Jun-yeong, director Heo is now in trouble as he finally exposed him to the CEO. Now the CEO intimidatingly asks director Heo to resign from the company.

“Living life according to one’s wishes might bring happiness.”

The Webtoon team held another contest and the results are out. Both Ma-eum and Producer Kwon have eyes on the same artist, and when Kwon PD claims the artist first, Ma-eum calls it unfair.

Meanwhile, as Kwon PD and Ma-eum’s discussion is slowly getting heated up, Man-chul immediately mediates, and to resolve the conflict, he asks them to make a proposal and then decides what is beneficial for the artist.

Moreover, Man-chul is always there for his team and always ready to back them up. With that, he has one more thing to take care of. He talks to the CEO about not taking action on Jun-yeong.

However, she declares that the informant on Heo is anonymous and they don’t know who it is, which made Man-chul feel relieved.

Furthermore, the artist that Ma-eum and Kwon PD have been fighting over turns out to be Seul-a, who worked with them before.

Recalling last time, Seul-a had to leave Ma-eum and go to Kwon PD because she was desperate to earn and have her debut, and this time to make up for it, she chose to work with Ma-eum.

Although Ma-eum is not as professional as Kwon PD yet, Seul-a still chose her as her producer. Ma-eum knows producer Kwon’s ability and thinks of what is good for the artist.

With that, Ma-eum requests producer Kwon to work with her. Moreover, producer Kwon is now promoted to deputy director and is happy to take the responsibility

“We’re all creating our own stories each day. Some days, you feel like you took a wrong turn. A few days later, you realize you’ve managed to turn it into your path. And some of us persevere and keep trotting along each day even if we falter from time to time in order to achieve our longtime dreams. Sometimes we have to make a choice at crossroads. Every day, we are creating our own stories because life is like a full-length book. Just like today’s webtoon where a new story begins everyday.”

Ma-eum’s younger sister, Nu-ri, is no longer undercover and her family already knows that she is the Webtoon Witch. Moreover, she is now helping Ma-eum as she works in the same field.

She interviewed the webtoon artists, and Dae-ryuk showed up with a new look that made everyone in the room drop their jaw.

Furthermore, everything finally feels perfect. However, there is still regret in Ma-eum’s heart that she finally resolves to meet, and that is to meet her friend whom she hurt while playing Judo. Her friend is also the reason she left Judo.

Ma-eum felt so happy and asked Jun-yeong for a drink, and that’s when Jun-yeong confessed his feelings to her. Ma-eum hasn’t answered Jun-yeong yet, yet he is persuading her confidently.

All of the efforts put forth by the webtoon team have finally come to fruition as the CEO of NEON offers the webtoon team an office at the NEON headquarters.

Three years ago, Man-chul dreamed of getting his team to the headquarters. Moving there means the team is successful and it has finally come true. Removing the banner from three years ago means a lot to Man-Chul, and that is because his dreams finally came true.

The final episode ends with the team moving out of their old office and walking towards a brighter future with hope and dreams.

Today’s Webtoon Quick Plot Recap

For 15 years, On Ma-eum (Kim Sejeong) has been a judo athlete. Her sole life revolved around the sport. However, an injury ended her Judo career. With her professional judo career over, On Ma-eum must find a way to pick herself up and move on.

Subsequently, she then discovers her life’s purpose and lands her first non-sports job in a webtoon editorial department. However, she is having a hard time adjusting to her new job as a rookie webtoon producer and the people she works with.

Fortunately, with time passing and the additional support of her coworkers, Goo Jun-yeong (Nam Yoon Su)  and Seok Ji-hyung (Daniel Choi), On Ma-eum managed to find herself little by little settling into her new life.

On Ma-eum finds herself reaching for a new dream as her life’s difficulties begin to fade. On Ma-eum eventually grows as a person and as a webtoon producer despite all of her hardships.

Today’s Webtoon Peak Points

Kim Sejeong as On Ma-eum

Following her breakout performance in Business Proposal, Kim Sejeong continues to follow her artistic path in her portrayal of On Ma-eum.

Undniably remarkable, she is indeed a queen of aegyo and that is shown all throughout the series. She proved her remarkable screen presence in the series by portraying her bright and energetic character.

Despite some viewers’ reservations about her character’s overly optimistic personality, she nailed her role and managed to bring On Ma-eum to life.

Kim Sejeong successfully and effectively represented the shortcomings and difficulties that a webtoon producer may face at work. She also has great chemistry with everyone, especially Daniel Choi.

They have that chemistry that will make your heart flutter. However, it is also preferable that they maintained a mentor-mentee relationship in the end. It impressively demonstrates professionalism and ethical behavior in the workplace.

Apart from her optimism and hard work, Ma-eum did not expect things to go smoothly as possible. She had the mindset that she could work hard to make things go well. Although, she can’t always see how other people’s perspectives differ. When confronted, she tries to understand and change her own point of view.

Outweighing the Bad

Not only did the series depict the various stories of webtoon writers and aspiring webtoon writers, but it also depicted the struggles of a webtoon service team as producers inside the webtoon industry and their personal struggles.

However, their main big conflict isn’t as heavy as we think it is; their antagonist was a man named Director Heo, who was eager to shut down their webtoon team.

The only thing missing from this big conflict is a clear explanation for why Director Heo is always after Jang Man-chul, especially since Heo was the reason why the Gingertoon had to close down, and now that Man-chul’s team is now under NEON, he wants to do it all over again.

Apart from the intention to acquire Youngtoon for Heo’s own benefit, and also the CEO of Youngtoon, it does seem that there is more to that.

Unfolding Shin Dae-ryuk’s Traumatic Childhood

First and foremost, let us acknowledge Kim Do Hoon‘s outstanding performance as Shin Dae-ryuk. He did a phenomenal job portraying a person suffering from long-term trauma. The way he jumps or flicks as a result of a trauma response when a woman touches him, and how he simply freezes on the spot whenever something triggers him, is worthy of praise as it is very realistic.

Although the drama creatively presented what goes on inside Dae-ryuk’s mind whenever his trauma is triggered, the plot alone is disappointing in how Dae-ryuk’s storyline concluded. Dae-ryuk’s mother was painted as his abuser and the reason he had a traumatic childhood since his first appearance in the drama.

It became disappointing in terms of how they made it all seem like a misunderstanding that chaining him was an act of love and her only way to protect him, and how they changed an evil abusive mother into a sympathetic Alzheimer’s patient.

That plot alone, as well as how they built up Dae- ryuk’s plotline from socially awkward to trusting for so many episodes, only to crumble him like that, was a huge letdown.

Although, we hoped to see him treated professionally and heal in a much healthier way, that did not happen. However, it was good to see Dae-ryuk free from his past and the chains of his trauma are finally broken and it is heartwarming to see him finally find his purpose and happiness in life.

Today’s Webtoon Musings

Despite all the problems, the good always outweighs the bad in the end. Today’s Webtoon closed on a good and satisfying note, as it settled significant things that remained unresolved.

The journey of the Webtoon team was quite eventful. The team finally succeeded after a series of mishaps and unfortunate events. The team formed a strong bond during the process, which was a reward.

Jang Man-chul (Park Ho San) proved that if one can dream, one can achieve. He is, indeed, the best leader who has built a loyal team for himself by establishing it with passion, also there is something about Park Ho San’s portrayal of Jang Man-chul that will make your heart touched which is amazing.

If you enjoy heartening narratives, you should watch Today’s Webtoon. The drama is full of hope, which makes the story heartwarming. It’s also amazing to see how the characters change, especially Kwon PD, who went from being unreasonable and uncompromising to being more generous with deadlines and showing concern for his authors’ health.

Finally, Today’s Webtoon reassures us that it is okay to persevere and continue pursuing what truly makes us happy, regardless of the expense. Not everything will go as planned, but we will learn and grow along the way, and the journey may end up being our most precious and remarkable memory.

This drama is an uplifting breath of fresh air. It’s a good destressing drama to watch after a heavy one. Besides that, you can take away from this drama their unwavering optimism and heartfelt words of wisdom.

As frustrating as the plot can be at times, the central theme of the drama offers comfort and warmth, and many of its quotes will stay with us. Dong-hee’s one line in particular: “Waking up from a dream doesn’t mean you can never have another dream.”
