You would not want to miss a visit to UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, Hwaseong Fortress.

According to Visit Korea, the fortress, constructed from 1794 to 1796, was built by King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty to house and honor the remains of his father Prince Sado, who had been executed by being locked alive inside a rice chest by his own father King Yeongjo after failing to obey the command to commit suicide.  Hence it is also called the walled city of filial love.

It also demonstrates King Jeongjo’s goal to establish a new pioneer city with its own economic power.

Twenty Five Twenty One, Itaewon Class, Love in the Moonlight and Mental Coach Jegal, are some of fan-favorite K-Dramas filmed at this fortress.
