The highly anticipated 59th Baeksang Arts Awards will be held on April 28.
It will take place at Incheon Paradise City on the 28th of this month from 5:30 pm and will be broadcast live simultaneously on JTBC, JTBC2 and JTBC4, and digitally on TikTok.
Baeksang Arts Awards, the only comprehensive art awards ceremony in Korea encompassing TV, film, and theater, places top priority on professionalism and fairness and selects candidates (works) through a strict screening.
To refer to various voices, a preliminary survey was conducted by 60 professional evaluators in the industry. Thereafter, judges for each category appointed on the recommendation of a group of experts representing TV, film, and theater decide the final candidates through a stringent screening process.
The targets for this year’s screening are content provided on terrestrial, comprehensive, cable, OTT, and web from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023, as well as Korean feature films and plays performed in Korea during the same period.
In the TV category, at least four episodes of content provided on terrestrial, general, cable, OTT, and web are included. In the case of serial works, only works that have been broadcast for more than one-third of the screening date are included. However, works that were excluded during last year’s candidate screening period will be classified for this year’s screening.
The film section also targets Korean feature films released in Korea around the same time. Directors who debuted with feature films during the screening period are eligible for the New Director Award category.
In both the TV and film categories, the criteria for nomination for the Rookie of the Year award is that there are no more than 3 main or supporting actors in a certain amount in each category, regardless of the debut year.
In the theater category, the screening period is the same, and the categories include Baeksang Short Play, Acting Awards, and Baeksang Play Award.
