Recognizing the pioneering figures who lead trends in the Korean entertainment industry, CJ ENM announced the winners of the 2023 Visionary.
Since 2020, CJ ENM has been selecting and awarding people who have presented a new vision for the cultural industry based on their own originality throughout the entertainment industry. These visionary artists feature people who have inspired the industry through constant challenges and forecasts for the future of the entertainment industry
2023 Visionary winners were selected after a balanced evaluation of quantitative data, expert review, and global indicators. The selection criteria for “Visionary” is a sole performance that has established an unrivaled position with remarkable achievements in the K-entertainment industry. It includes cross-border ripple power which means influence that extends not only to the entertainment but also to various industries.
Other considerations include breaking stereotypes by revolutionizing concepts, original creativity and global influence that transcends regional boundaries.
About 60 CJ ENM members with professional insights on content production and business participated in the screening, and professionalism and objectivity were secured by introducing evaluation indicators using Big Data.
In addition, CJ ENM introduced global research for the first time in cooperation with Endeavor Analytics, a subsidiary of the global entertainment group Endeavor. Endeavor Analytics leverages a wide range of global data resources, such as celebrity tracking services and social media metrics, to showcase proprietary metrics. In addition, the reliability of the evaluation was strengthened in connection with WME, a large US agency to which global artists and creators belong.
2023 Visionary Awardees
The 2023 Visionary winners are Kim Hye Soo, Na Young Suk, Ma Dong Seok, Park Eun Bin, Park Chan Wook, IU, (G)I-DLE, Lee Jung Jae, Lee Jin Joo and Jung Seo Kyung.
Actress Kim Hye-soo and Director Park Chan Wook were selected as figures who inspire the entertainment industry and creators with their unrivaled capabilities.
Last year, Kim Hye Soo reinvented her craft by showing compelling characters in Juvenile Justice and Under The Queen’s Umbrella.
World-renowned filmmaker Park Chan Wook, who won various awards with the movie Decision to Break Up, continues his unrivaled world of art with original imagination and unique mise-en-scène.
IU, Lee Jung Jae, and Jung Seo Kyung are people who have accomplished cross-border achievements that cross borders from one field to another.
While IU maintains her top position as a singer who draws admiration from the public, she received favorable reviews from the world media for her appealing performance as actress Lee Ji Eun in the Cannes International Film Festival-winning film Broker.
Accordingly, Lee Jung Jae, a world-renowned actor with both global recognition and influence, challenged himself as a director with the movie Hunt and was recognized for his excellent directing skills.
Jung Seo Kyung, a top-class writer in the film industry, led the box office by introducing a unique worldview that contains elaborate character construction and the spirit of the times through the tvN drama Little Women.
Na Young Seok, Ma Dong Seok, and Park Eun-bin have created new genres and characters with their own originality.
Producer Na Young Suk has created entertainment programs ranging from Earth Arcade, which melts the sensibility of Generation Z and the charm of female performers in Unexpected Journey. He is expected to showcase a spin-off of Youn’s Kitchen in the first half of 2023.
Ma Dong Seok is an irreplaceable actor who creates his own character in the genre. Proving his ability as a producer to the public through Holy Night: Demon Hunters and The Villains. He is preparing for a global project Eternals and a remake of The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil co-produced with Sylvester Stallone.
Actress Park Eun Bin became a character herself against the world’s prejudice in the drama Extraordinary Attorney Woo and spurred a global syndrome.
(G)I-DLE and PD Lee Jin Joo have emerged as icons that the industry should pay attention to by presenting new possibilities. The unrivaled girl group (G)I-DLE, which presented a new direction for K-POP artists with their own concepts and creativity, is expressing their own individuality musically by directly participating in lyrics and composition.
Producer Lee Jin Joo created hit content that added new directing methods and rules to the overflowing love reality entertainment.
