A fusion of Singapore’s UNESCO Heritage Hawker and Korea’s UNESCO Heritage Kimchi is all set to run this month!
To encourage healthy life, Korean Embassy in Singapore spearheads Say Kimchi Festival. Following the success of last year’s K-Food Online Festival, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea is pleased to present another nationwide online event.
Say Kimchi Festival is a social media contest that will take place from 11 May to 31 May 2021.
Mr. Ahn Young-jip, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, said, “I sincerely hope that everyone can come together safely and have an enjoyable time taking photos and videos of their fun experiences with Korean Kimchi. I am truly grateful to Singaporeans for their love of Kimchi and other Korean food. We will continue to walk together on this journey to combat the ongoing pandemic.”
To celebrate this meaningful festival, a Korean restaurant that serves representative Korean food that contains Kimchi, such as Kimchi fried rice and Kimchi stew, in a hawker centre took part in the event as part of the promotion.
Just like how ‘hawker culture’ represents Singapore’s unique community dining and culinary practices, ‘Kimjang’, the culture of making and sharing Kimchi, shows how Koreans care for each other as one community. Say Kimchi Festival will serve as a great opportunity to enjoy two nation’s intangible cultural assets and feel our connectivity within one global community.
Say Kimchi Festival Mechanics
To participate, entrants should post an original photo or video featuring their experience with Korean Kimchi onto their own Instagram or Facebook account with the hashtags #KoreanKimchi, #KfoodSGunited, and #SayKimchiFestival.
All submissions will be reviewed by the event organizer against a grading rubric that includes the content’s creativity, fun factor, and originality, amongst other factors.
Say Kimchi Festival will award a total of SGD 3,000 worth of Korean mart vouchers to winners. Winners will be announced by mid of June 2021.
