Bang Min Ah claims an impressive career milestone for the film Snowball.
Bang Min-Ah receives this year’s International Rising Star Award for the movie Snowball Directed by Lee Woo-jung.
Snowball is film based on the award-winning novel The Best Life by Lim Sol-Ah. It focuses on the struggles of a teenage girl. The novel won several awards like the 4th Munhakdongne University Fiction Award.
The film adaptation of this novel is also award-winning. The film bagged KTH Award and the CGK & Samyang XEEN Award at the 25th Busan International Film Festival. It also secured the New Choice Award at the 46th Seoul Independent Film Festival.
This year another International film festival recognized this film and that is New York Asian Film Festival. It is a representative Asian film festival in North America that selects only the most unique and interesting films.
This year’s NYAFF will be held in its annual location at Lincoln Center. The film festival will start this August 6 and ends on August 22.
According to NYAFF or (New York Asian Film Festival), the reason they chose Bang Min Ah as this year’s “rising star” is because of her powerful presence in this film.
“I (We) have seen hundreds of East Asian films for this year’s selection. But among them, Bang Min-ah’s performance in Snowball showed the concentration and dedication that only the best actors have.”
In addition, the film festival said “Intertwining pieces of ambiguity and suggestive deficiency. She gives a powerful presence that is hard to find on the screen.“
She perfectly captures the painful experiences of teenagers, which is the main plot and story of the film. This makes her worthy to receive this award.
Bang Min Ah is grateful and happy to hear about the news before the event.
She said “I sincerely thank NYAFF for creating such a heartening moment to share such great joy with the people I love during difficult and lonely times. I look forward to the day when I can express my gratitude in person. I hope everyone is in good health.”
The Film Festival is now celebrating its 20th year, however, only three actors won this award. International Rising Star awards are not easy to attain. The actors who won this award are; Sosuke Ikematsu from Japan, Janine Gutierrez from the Philippines, and the most recent is Bang Min Ah from South Korea.
The actress is prepping up for her upcoming drama Check Out The Event this August.
