J-Drama Review: Takeru Satoh & Mone Kamishiraishi Declare “Love Lasts Forever “ – And Truly It Did!

Love Lasts Forever

Love Lasts Forever started with a chance encounter, and blossomed into an adorable and heartwarming love story.

The 10-episode rom-com-medical series managed to capture the growth of our cute heroine, and his beloved doctor with a “devil” attitude.

Love Lasts Forever

Love Lasts Forever Quick Plot Recap

Five years ago, while on a school trip in Tokyo, Nanase Sakura ( Mone Kamishiraishi) witnessed someone faint on an almost empty street. As she shouted for help, Doctor Kairi Tendo (Takeru Satoh), who happens to be passing by, heard and took action. He instructed  Sakura to call an ambulance as he administers first aid to the patient.

This single encounter started Sakura’s extreme crush, which motivated her to study hard so that she can be a nurse and can meet Tendo again someday.

Now a rookie nurse, Sakura has been assigned to Cardiology Department at Hiura General Hospital. Luck is on her side because Tendo is still working there as a cardiologist.

Love Lasts Forever Peak Points *Spoilers Alert

The Warrior Nurse

Sakura is not the brightest, nor the most skilled. But she is hardworking and definitely good at building emotional connections with patients. And she knows how important it is to quickly take action, both in healthcare and in the love department.

Despite Tendo’s cold-hearted treatment, both on her workplace skills and her love confessions,  this lovely heroine has set her eyes and heart on giving her best. And honestly, it is difficult not to cheer for her along the way.

The Doctor’s  Second Chance at Love

Tendo was not an innate snob. His prickly personality is a stubborn defense mechanism to detach himself from everyone, especially after the tragic loss of his fiance Minori Wakabayashi (Misako Renbutsu).

It was a real delight to notice the subtle positive changes that Sakura brought to Tendo’s usually stiff personality. But nothing can compare to the giddiness of watching Tendo turn into a champion boyfie. Rough on the outside, but an extreme softie to his sweetheart.

Love Lasts Forever

Topnotch Chemistry

Even from the start, Tendo has been a huge motivating factor for Sakura. Tendo, on the other hand, has been the first one to see the potential in Sakura when she acted quickly in an emergency situation.

What is more amazing is how Sakura continuously brings out the vulnerable side of Tendo, and how  Tendo can draw out easily the protective side of Sakura.

Love Lasts Forever Series Musings

I have to warn you, the whole series is totally addicting! With a light-hearted tone in general, Love Lasts Forever has the tendency of being mushy, and yet, the craving to watch more lingers.

What makes it work, in my opinion, is the way that the romantic scenes are being balanced with the medical side (the side stories of the patients).

Still, the overall rating is four stars because, well, the mushiness can be over the top at times.

And no matter how much I enjoyed watching it, I do not consider this as a drama that I will love to rewatch.

It’s nothing personal.

It’s more of I enjoyed watching it too much on the first time, that there is no need to repeat.

My love for this drama will last forever- even without reruns.
