“Drawing Closer” Hints At An Enigmatic Secret of a Romantic Tale With Limited Timeframe

Drawing Closer

Imagine knowing that your love story has an expiration date. That’s the bittersweet reality for Akito (Ren Nagase) and Haruna (Natsuki Deguchi) in Drawing Closer.

The recently unveiled trailer delves deeper into their lives while hinting at a secret harbored by Haruna.

With just a year remaining for Akito and six months for Haruna, the couple is resolute in seizing every moment, embarking on a journey that tugs at the heartstrings.

The trailer introduces new characters who enrich the narrative, portrayed by seasoned and emerging actors. Ayaka Miura (Mayuu Yokota), Haruna’s high school friend, provides clumsy yet heartfelt support. Mikiko (Fumino Kimura), the compassionate florist, aids Akito in expressing his love through flowers. Family dynamics are beautifully depicted by Nene Ohtsuka and Toru Nakamura as Itsumi and Kazuki, Akito’s parents, and Yasuko Matsuyuki as Hazuki Sakurai, Haruna’s mother and a devoted nurse.

The theme song, a rendition of “Wakamono No Subete” by suis from Yorushika, mirrors the characters’ emotional journey and has already stirred nostalgia and anticipation on social media. Suis shares her personal connection to the song: “I remembered the first time I sang ‘Wakamono no Subete’ as a young girl, and I was so moved that I couldn’t finish it. This song plays at the end of Drawing Closer as the characters wipe away their tears. With guidance from the brilliant musician, Seiji Kameda, I sang with hope, and it’s my wish that viewers will feel a sense of optimism by the film’s conclusion.”

Prepare to be moved by the poignant tale of two young lovers in Drawing Closer, streaming exclusively on Netflix from June 27th.
