iQiyi proudly presents an innovative drama concept in the delightful costume series Romance on the Farm (田耕纪) premiering on October 14th.
Adapted from the popular web novel Rebirth of a Small Landlord (重生小地主) and revolves around farming life during the Song Dynasty, the comedic storyline sets it apart from the usual period series. The series is directed by Hong Ling (洪泠), written by Jin Yuanyuan (金媛媛), and starring Joseph Zeng (曾舜晞) and Tian Xiwei (田曦薇).
A modern girl is transported into an ancient pastoral game, where she unexpectedly encounters a charismatic NPC only to find that what was supposed to be a “divine assist” turns into a “burden”. Romance on the Farm has garnered over one million reservations on iQIYI for its unique concept. Following the success of pastoral-themed content, Romance on the Farm is set to bring the audience away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Since the release of the trailer, the series has captured the hearts of many audiences with its picturesque countryside scenes, offering a soothing and heartwarming experience. Additionally, the comical day-to-day interactions between Joseph Zeng and Tian Xiwei in the show have earned it the title of a perfect “stress-relief comedy” by the audience.
Tian Xiwei, known as the “sweet romance drama female lead,” gained recognition for her outstanding performance in the 2022 hit drama New Life Begins (卿卿日常). Tian Xiwei’s sweet and lively appearance captured the audience’s attention and is believed to be the next rising star. Her roles in Lovely Us (如此可爱的我没们) and Be My Cat (我的宠物少将军) were also noteworthy, making her a promising actress from the post-’95 generation. In Romance on the Farm, her quirky and driven goal of making a fortune adds a comedic touch, resonating with viewers as a relatable portrayal of life。
Joseph Zeng, who previously starred in popular series such as Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Sabre（倚天屠龙记), Mysterious Lotus Casebook (莲花楼) and Fighter of the Destiny (择天记) is loved by the audience for both his acting skills and attractive appearance. In Romance on the Farm, Joseph Zeng’s character is shrouded in mystery, he was first seen to be attacked and severely injured by unknown assailants, hinting at a deeper and mystic plot that has yet to be discovered. Moreover, Joseph Zeng and Tian Xiwei first-time collaboration as the “big-eyed duo” has created significant excitement and anticipation in the audience.
Lian Maner (starring Tian Xiwei), a modern girl, accidentally finds herself in an ancient rural village where she encounters the eccentric Lian family, who are her distant relatives. She also
meets the enigmatic and “tsundere” male lead, Shen Nuo (starring Joseph Zeng). Together, they confront troublesome relatives, engage in farming and business ventures, and strive for prosperity.
As they go through various hilarious and chaotic situations, their relationship deepens, and they promise to accompany each other through life. With chickens flying and dogs jumping, and with the gathering of relatives and the cultivation of rice, everyone is invited to join in the farming journey.
