iQIYI’s latest original series, Romance on the Farm (田耕纪) has skyrocketed to a viewership of 75 million within just two days of its premiere!
Viewers are singing praises for the innovative concept, fast-paced storyline, and immersive experience watching Romance in the Farm.
Starring Joseph Zeng (曾舜晞) and Tian Xiwei (田曦薇), this pastoral romantic comedy delivers heaps of delight with its picturesque countryside settings. Viewers have been exclaiming that their “smile hasn’t faded throughout.”
At the outset, Joseph Zeng made a grand entrance with a child, proclaiming Tian Xiwei as the “love of my (his) life”. Little did the viewers know that the child was merely a prop to assist Tian Xiwei in breaking off her engagement.
While their relationship could have faced condemnation, the unexpected arrival of a dashing son-in-law introduced a pivotal plot twist. Joseph Zeng’s sweet talk won the hearts of the family, and he became a beloved member of the family, despite not officially becoming the son-in-law. The plot took an unexpected turn, yet it all fell into place seamlessly.
As the story unfolds, Joseph Zeng’s identity remains a mystery, leaving us uncertain about whether he will bring good or ill to the Lian family. Shen Nuo (starring Joseph Zeng) was initially seen being pursued by assassins, resulting in him suffering severe injuries. He becomes entangled in various other conflicts and secretive developments, prompting further questions about his true identity.
Despite his claim to hail from Shen’s Village, his appearance doesn’t align with the typical farmer stereotype. After six episodes, it becomes apparent that Shen Nuo is involved in a concealed plan that is yet to be unveiled. It makes us ponder Joseph Zeng’s intentions in concealing his identity within the Lian family and what he aims to achieve by ingratiating himself with them.
Tian Xiwei finds herself thrust into an ancient rural village game, only to realize that her marriage was set up with the intention of being sacrificed. After meticulous planning, she successfully avoided the wedding but after that, she was drugged and abducted. Upon regaining consciousness, she discovers herself bound and on the verge of being sacrificed by fire.
In her desperation, she cries out to exit the game, but the system informs her that she must complete a mission to earn one thousand gold coins for a successful departure. Despite the sacrificial undertones, the show manages to inject humor into the situation, evoking both tears and laughter from the viewers.
Beyond the suspenseful and enigmatic elements, the members of the Lian family appear to harbor their own hidden agendas. Despite professing to be a tightly-knit family, they are brimming with personal ambitions.
Presented in a light and humorous manner, the show portrays jealousy and self-interest within family relationships, shedding light on favoritism and individualistic motives in real life.
However, the arrival of Tian Xiwei subtly begins to reshape the dynamics within the Lian family. What’s even more eagerly anticipated is how the story will progress and strengthen the unity of the Lian family.
Adapted from the popular web novel Rebirth of a Small Landlord (重生小地主) by Ruo Yan (弱颜) and revolving around the farming life during the Song Dynasty, the comedic series tells the story of Lian Maner (starring Tian Xiwei), a modern girl, accidentally finds herself in an ancient rural village where she encounters the eccentric Lian family, who are her distant relatives.
She also meets the enigmatic and tsundere male lead, Shen Nuo (starring Joseph Zeng).
Together, they confront troublesome relatives, engage in farming and business ventures, and strive for prosperity. As they go through various hilarious and chaotic situations, their relationship deepens, and they promise to accompany each other through life.
With chickens flying and dogs jumping, and with the gathering of relatives and the cultivation of rice, everyone is invited to join in the farming journey.
Romance on the Farm is now exclusively available (except in Indonesia) on iQIYI (www.iq.com and APP).
