It is interesting to note that Unrequited Love has such articulate love pairing.
A fascinating twist since the setting is university life of students. So far, I like listening to random, senseless and witty ways of communication in this series. Probably because the packaged campus story we often see relies on romance in the most palpable way.
But Unrequited Love, though treading on the same note, is strong in hitting subtle details of the characters and how those will shape the direction of the story. To say it bluntly, our two smart geeks enjoying the process of falling in love is quite unique. Especially since their core perspectives are different, but they always find a way to understand each other.
Running typical problems and actions on those problems, the more I get to know these students – the more I am relating to what they are having. Because at some point in my life, I was once like them, having boy problems and aspiring to be great as a student.

Unrequited Love Episodes 13 & 14 Key Moments
“Huainan, is it possible for our girlfriends to visit us here?”
Huainan and friends work on Baby Guard diligently. Luo Zhi also sent packed foods and they were impressed on her food choices specificified on the labeled lunch boxes.
Hearing Lei Tian (Liu Yi Yi) and Zhi An’s (Zhai Xiao Wen) plead for their girlfriends to visit the office, Mingrui chides on them both.
But as soon as Ri Qing (Nagima) arrives with food, his early warning vanished and welcomes the girl of his dream in the office. Seeing his friends questioning faces, he explained that he had no choice because she was already downstairs.
“Stay there. I’ll go and find you.”
Testing the app, Luo Zhi worked with Huainan, but ends up getting lost. He tells her to stay at where she is and he will go look for her.
Huainan spots Luo Zhi who is still struggling in the direction and directs her to turn left and walk backwards. Unknown to her, he was kiting her to where he is standing.
When her back bumps on him, she faces his faintly smiling face. Time stops, and they lazily lounge on the ground while staring at the blue sky and falling leaves.
Simultaneously catching a leaf, they debate on who really caught it based on science and reasoning. Huainan relents and gazes at her pretty face.
After app testing, they go for a quiet walk and she playfully points out his mind-wandering. She tells him that more than worrying about the project, he should worry about the amount of curse he will be getting for him not to take part at the contest.
Confessing that she was the inspiration to the app and promises to give the first “baby guard” bracelet once it becomes successful and gets released. She retaliates by saying its impossible for him to have not gotten lost in the city so he gets the second bracelet.
However, Huainan holds her hand and tells her that she will give the bracelet to the little girl who helped him in the past. She goes to wish him luck in finding the girl.
“I’ve never been interested in people’s past.”
Luo Zhi and the girls help Baili nurse her broken heart and she also learns about the forum of their “baby guard” project being leaked. She goes to the team’s hideout and tells Huainan about the concern. But keeping their cool, they both decide to check on it once they are all well-rested. While tucking in the blanket on Huainan, he moves in his sleep and almost shared a kiss with Luo Zhi who got startled about it. A knock on the window breaks her reverie as Zhanyan arrives to have a talk with her.
Expectedly spewing nonsense to spite Luo Zhi, she goes on her delusions. But Luo Zhi remains calm responding to her taunts. She motions to leave but Zhanyan calls her while standing on the rooftop ledge. Daring her of being gutsy to be her love rival, Luo Zhi replied with a sound answer.
“I’ve never wanted to be anyone’s love rival. It’s my business whether I like someone or not. I don’t need to risk my life for it.”
She also leaves an advice to her thought process in her break-up with Huainan since she seems to think differently on how he perceived it. Still unreasonably pining on her belief that Huainan needs him, Luo Zhi set it straight to her face that it’s the other way around.
Refuting her move of throwing sympathy card, Zhanyan icily tells Luo Zhi that her one-sided crush will never amount to the relationship she shared with Huainan.
“We came up with the idea first.”
The news of Huainan’s project to have a duplicate spread like a wildfire. Apparently, Ruqing inadvertently let it slip unaware that it will be copied. Confronting the people from the student council, Zhanyan did not waste time with her antagonizing litany. Smartly refuting, there’s no proof that they copied; the lazy Yongle and Zhangwei realize they ate more than they can chew.
Through Luo Zhi’s coaching, Mingrui presented their intellectual property registration leaving them no opportunity to carry on their evil scheme. Later, he reveals the person behind his move which obviously Zhanyan pouted on.
Back at the office, they huddle on how they overturned the table. Ge Bi nonchalantly tells them their woes are nothing since his father is interested in buying the app. The boys and Zhanyan start building dreams ahead of whether it will win or not only to hear Huainan declare that his intention to create the app is not for profit, but to be of use to those who need it.
Having different views opinions, Luo Zhi tries to mediate and ask everyone to focus first and not to think ahead.
“When you and Ge Bi kissed, how does it feel?”
Haunted by the thought of an almost kiss she shared with Huainan, Baili was caught off-guard when her best friend asked how it felt like. Her bafflement fades quick and she starts blabbing about the limitless possibility of Luo Zhi sharing a kiss with Huainan.
Meanwhile, Zhanyan draws a line with the geek guy who likes her by mentioning he has to defeat Huainan first. But he retorts that he will persevere comparing his situation to solving Match equations. He also gives Zhanyan a profound advice of how her love for Huainan seems suffocating and selfish. Of course, she refused his unfiltered opinion and points to his ulterior motive of being with her.
“I’ll pick the stars today and spell your name out.”
Receiving a call from Huainan, she finds him wallowing in alcohol. Softly chiding him his action when they still have a lot of things to do, she still praises him for fulfilling his promise to show different sides of himself.
Trying to sober up, she lets him go on his drunk escapade of counting stars, and she also obliges on a light show for him.
Unrequited Love Episodes 13 & 14 Musings
That “falling leaves” scene when Luo Zhi and Huainan act like the geeks they are in staking their claim of a leaf was so sweet, I bet Luo Zhi would put that leaf on her favorite book as a memento.
Banking on the realistic stories of university life, I had this enlightening moment of processing how the wardrobe in the series seems to be following how genuine college campus life is. Small detail that adds realness to the storytelling.
I love how Luo Zhi uses truthful words to communicate with Zhanyan. I hope all female leads will follow her lead. *grin
In contrast, Baili is really causing me a headache with her love fixation that has a high level to cause self-destruction. In episode 13, we saw her withstood an agony that she served herself. Hopefully, her promise to love herself more will manifest.
Episodes 13 and 14 of Unrequited Love showed different ways of how a woman love based on her rationalization. Something that Zhanyan really lacks. So I’m rooting for the geek guy to persist until she finally realize his heartfelt feelings.
