We witnessed these characters engage in a ruthless pursuit of uncovering the truth behind the ‘Chimera,‘ serial explosion and murder case that resurfaced after 35 years for a strange reason.
Notably, for eight weeks, the series was the weekend’s highlight. In fact, viewers highly anticipated as the story unfold various events every Saturday and Sunday. Subsequently, the final episode of the well-lauded series aired on December 19, providing closure and wrapping up the plot of Chimera.
On Set Chemistry and Off Set Rapport
After working closely together in filming Chimera, the casts naturally grew fond of each other. Not only were they convincing in delivering uncompromising portrayals, but they also enjoyed the company of one another behind the scenes. Moreover, in a written interview, Park Hae Soo shared that As an actor or a character, there were a lot of momentary situations and difficult scenes.
“It was an honor to be able to share the moments of ‘Chimera’ as a senior and the older brother. He and Soohyun fit well together, so we filmed a lot of scenes thinking about it together. Besides the moments of acting together, we were able to rely on each other comfortably, talk a lot, and communicate a lot about the work.”
Additionally, Claudia Kim also shared her experience in working with actors Park Hae Soo and Lee Hee Joon:
“If you watch the making video, you can probably feel the atmosphere of the filming set. The story of the drama was heavy and serious, but the actual filming location was really pleasant. Hee-joon oppa was leading the younger brothers. Hae-soo oppa was like a friend who listened to their worries and gave laughs, and Hyokyung was like a family I met as a cute and charming youngest. Everyone shared their concerns and supported each other while filming.”
What is more, when asked the same question, Lee Hee Joon said that everyone was very considerate of the other actors, so we were very supportive of each other on set.
“During the filming period, there are times when it is good. But there are times when it is difficult mentally and physically. At that time, more than anyone else, actor Park Hae-soo was the colleague and driving force that made me stand out the most. He is a colleague who has been on the theater stage for about 10 years. He is a good person whom I respect personally. Actor Soo-hyeon, as a fan, always looked out for his work, but this time, it was the first time we worked together.”
The respect and admiration of Chimera’s main cast evidently show. Besides their versatility in acting, the actors showed humility and kindness which made the fans adore them more.
Striking Mementos
Most actors and actresses become emotional on the last day on set. Likewise, they tend to feel nostalgic yet fulfilled watching the last episode broadcast. For that reason, the fans wanted to know what were the lasting impacts filming Chimera has on the main cast. Park Hae Soo, Lee Hee Joon, Soo Hyun/ Claudia Kim shared their unforgettable experiences when asked about their favorite moments.
According to Lee Hee Joon, the scene in the interrogation room shown in episode 4 is her favorite.
“In the scene of the interrogation room in episode 4, I remember that I filmed it without drinking water for about 8 hours to get a really thirsty voice and feeling. I also remember the times when we rehearsed together with actor Park Hae-soo and went looking for fun things together.”
On the other hand, Claudia Kim shared the whole experience in filming Chimera was the overall memorable thing for her.
“Overall, there were many scenes that were interrogated. Since I am a cold-hearted profiler, I didn’t want my emotions to be burdensome or overflowing. Still, I couldn’t miss the tension of every line, so it took a lot of practice and a lot of concentration. In particular, the cinematographers complimented me on the tension in the scenes I shot with Kang Sang-goo. The time I spent with Sang-gu was small, but I remember that we focused and worked together.”
Meanwhile, Park Hae Soo stated the scene where Joong-yeop and Eugene eat together at Jae-hwan’s house is ironic and good on the one hand. Just as the meaning of ‘hansot-bap’ is unique to Koreans, it was the only warm scene in our work where we could not relax even for a moment.
Presumably, these favorite moments shared by the cast are some of the things that piqued the interests and support of the viewers.
Heartfelt Appreciation To The Production Team
Not only did Chimera’s main characters exude great charisma and outstanding character impressions, but they also showed appreciation to the team that brought the series to life.
“It is a work that has been filmed for a long period of time, passing through several seasons. All the staff who filmed with us depended on each other a lot for filming, and we were able to become strong. The energy of good people created good synergy, and the time I spent on set will be remembered happily and preciously for me.” – Claudia Kim
It is indeed admirable how these renowned figures recognize the hard work of those around them. More importantly, how they take the time to acknowledge their production team vocally. He is grateful of people’s efforts so he can portray a character in front of the public.
“This work is a valuable work that allowed me to realize and learn a lot in that area. Before the end of the show, I am personally disappointed, but at the same time, I am proud. I am grateful for acting in such a solid and heavy pursuit thriller drama while working with great actors as a result of long hours of hard work with the precious staff. Thank you for being able to work on this.” -Park Hae Soo
