Jang Keun Suk expressed his feelings about making a comeback after a 5-year hiatus with Decoy.
Decoy which has been released in 186 countries around the world, has an overseas rating of 9.4 and has recorded 1st place in Coupang Play’s popular works.
Part 1 of the series tells the story of what happens after the worst swindler of all time who died 8 years ago is identified as a suspect in a serial murder. Expectations are high for the expected unfolding of the mysteries surrounding the featured fraud in the story.
Decoy Part 2 which is about to be released in April continues the journey of people who are tracking the man who hid behind death. Correspondingly, the hidden truth between those who pursue the guy who rose to the surface with the serial murder case and those who deceive each other will be revealed.
“Decoy Part 2” Previews Jang Keun Suk’s Relentless Pursuit To Unearth The Truth
Jang Keun Suk takes on the role of Gu Do-han, a lawyer-turned-detective who digs into murder cases after his sister’s death.
Providing a peek at the concluding part of Decoy, the actor shared his insights.
“I felt a great sense of accomplishment while watching the editing process. First, I felt the teamwork. It was the best teamwork I’ve had while filming so far. Personally, I wonder if it seemed stiff or nervous because it was a comeback after 5 years. I was worried. The actors were able to melt my worries well.“
On His Preparations To Film Decoy
Acknowledging the burden of a drama from a 5-year break, Jang confessed to taking acting lessons for Decoy.
“I was rusty before I did this work. I took acting lessons separately for a few months. To put it simply, I felt like a person who has been driving for 10 years but can’t even get the location right. I still have my stock knowledge, but it was necessary to bring them out. The moderate tension made me humble.“
Sharing a humbling experience from his acting lesson, the actor admitted to crying out loud in the first session. “I drew a mind map of who I miss and resent the most in my life, and I was sadly crying,” he said. After that, his teacher told him that it was half-done and a good start.
Bringing that lesson, he went to the first filming day of Decoy with tension, excitement and fear. Getting a nod at the first scene, he felt mixed emotions.
“This is why I became an actor. I felt a sense of excitement as I made each scene.“
On The Meaning of His Hiatus
He also mentions the long gap following his military enlistment in signing up for an acting project. Conveying his 31 years as an actor, he reckoned how the last 5 years of rest have been a good time for him, both intentionally and unintentionally.
When he went out before some people would ask why he has not been on TV and he can’t come up with an apt answer.
Looking back, Jang Keun Suk realized he made significant pondering for five years.
“I never took a break. I looked back at myself over the past 30 years, and I really worked hard on a lot of projects. So, wouldn’t it be good to take a break at this time? I accepted that time as my destiny with that thought. I have to create something inside me.“
On His Goal As An Actor In Decoy
For his comeback drama, Jang Keun Suk took a different image known to him. With that, he emphasizes growth as an actor as a mission he wants to accomplish.
“Rather than transforming through my character in Decoy, I wanted to give people the belief that I am an actor with potential and can express this type of acting. When I chose the series, I thought about whether I could match acting with my co-actors well, but I did not think that I should show myself transformed into this work.“
He also discloses the reason why he appeared in the series.
“The reason I chose it is the charm of the story. It was a dark story that could be a bit uncomfortable. Also, if you miss one scene, it would raise questions right away. It is a work that makes the viewers think and ask questions. I didn’t choose it because of the genre. At that time, when I thought about what I could do after hibernating, Decoy was the fastest to read.“
Going candid, Jang Keun Suk comments on his nickname “Asian Prince”.
“It is a nickname I came up with because I talked about it with my fans. It was a great opportunity when I was young. But even now, I am not ashamed of it. Even if I was embarrassed, it was too late, and if I regretted it, I can’t help it. ‘Asian Prince’ is a name given to me by fans, so it’s friendly and familiar.“
On Being Grateful For His Fans
Taking the opportunity, he thanks his fans for loving him for a long time.
“I’ve been thinking about what our relationship would be like, and it seems that the fans and I are no different from lovers who are in a relationship. We have a sense of responsibility for each other, but isn’t it unconditional love? I wonder how I would have been here if it wasn’t for them. When I think about it, I’m really grateful. That’s why I don’t want to disappoint them.”
Sharing how his adoring fans have turned the filming site like a buffet restaurant for the good carts sent, Jang Keun Suk mentioned how the production staff praised him and his fans as it was the first time to have such a filming location with sumptuous food all the time.
“It’s the reason I made a comeback after 5 years, and I’m well aware of the mindset of not being discouraged. I think that’s what I should do to the fans. Their efforts I want to make sure this doesn’t go in vain.“
Honestly verbalizing his thoughts on his fans’ reactions to Decoy, the actor made a plausible answer.
“I don’t think the fans are satisfied with whatever I do. I don’t think they absolutely support me. I have the desire to give. If there are people who support me, I want to continue working, and I have the idea that I have to give an acceptable performance. I think the fans were a bit surprised when they saw Decoy. It was dark. I didn’t know that. As much as the fans know my personality well, I wonder if they will feel I’m acting in moderation. The people I feel most sorry for during my hiatus for the past 5 years are my fans. My fans have the same personality as me. They are a bit passionate, and that passion is excessive. So, I really like it.“
The 7th and 8th episodes of Decoy Part 2 starring Jang Keun Suk will be released through Coupang Play on April 7.
