INTERVIEW: Lee Kyu Hyung Spills the Tea on Working with Song Kang Ho in “Uncle Samsik”

Actor Lee Kyu Hyung just dished on all-things Uncle Samsik, the new Disney+ series where he gets to share the screen with the legendary Song Kang Ho!

Lee plays Kang Sung-min, a bit of a political climber who tries to use the kind-hearted Uncle Sam-sik (played by Song Kang-ho) for his own benefit.

Script Steals His Heart

Lee fell head-over-heels for the script from the get-go. Not only was the story itself super appealing, but his character, Kang Sung-min, had a complex depth that drew him in. Plus, getting to work with Song Kang Ho in his drama debut? Sign Lee up!

Masterclass with Song Kang-ho

Sharing scenes with Song Kang-ho was basically like attending acting school with a real-life master. Song’s attention to detail blew Lee away. From memorizing every line reading to constantly refining his character, Lee learned a ton just by observing Song at work. He even admitted that Song’s guidance helped him seriously up his own acting game!

Building Trust, Delivering Power

Lee felt a huge sense of trust in having Song Kang-ho by his side. There were times when Lee thought his acting wasn’t quite there, but the director and Song swooped in and helped him pull out a killer performance. It was a true team effort, and the supportive vibe mirrored the relationship between Lee’s character and Uncle Sam-sik himself!

Busy Bee, Recovering from Injury

Lee recently had surgery on his Achilles tendon and is still in rehab. But that doesn’t slow him down! He just finished filming the movie “Handsome Guys” after wrapping Uncle Samsik, and he’s also got a role in the musical “Gentleman’s Guide” lined up.

Balancing the Act

Lee tries to keep things interesting by taking on different types of roles. To balance out all the heavy dramas, he likes to do some lighter projects too. That’s why he chose the hilarious musical “A Gentleman’s Guide,” where he gets to play a bunch of different characters and show off his funny side. The timing of “Handsome Guys” coming out with his injury wasn’t ideal, but hey, it’s another chance to show his acting range!

Looking Up!

Despite the setbacks, Lee stays positive. He’s thankful for the work and sees the timing of his musical as a perfect opportunity to connect with fans who are curious about him.

With Uncle Samsik now streaming on Disney+, Lee is excited to share this heartwarming story with the world! So grab your popcorn, settle in, and get ready to be amazed by Lee Kyu Hyung and the one and only Song Kang Ho!
