INTERVIEW: Park Bo Young Resonates With Her Character In “Daily Dose of Sunshine”

Daily Dose of Sunshine

Park Bo Young met the character who seemed most similar to her among the roles she played in her rich filmography.

Perhaps for that reason, the feedback to Daily Dose of Sunshine was positive.

In a media interview, the actress shared her thoughts about her latest work.

She expresses her gratitude for the enthusiastic response after the release of the Netflix series admitting she was worried about it so she was glad it came out well.

At first, I thought the main characters were the patients. She thought that patients should be seen well when doing it in an episodic format. It’s comfortable because I always film with the same staff on set, but the people acting as patients are unfamiliar, so I thought I’d help them get used to it quickly. I’m proud that people see it this way.”

Regarding the reason for choosing this work, Park said she connected well with the character.

It was also a genre I wanted to do because there are not many such warm human and healing works in my filmography. The timing was right and I received the script when I wanted to do it, so I knew I wanted to do it. I also felt like I wanted to do it because I had a connection with Da-eun.”

On Preparing for the Character

The character in the play suffered from depression, and when asked if there were any difficult parts while immersing herself in the character while working on the work, Park Bo-young responded she’s not the type of person who can’t get out of it.”

Although the latter part was difficult, Da-eun quickly overcame it and grew up, so I learned a lot from the counseling scene. In the end, I think I overcame it well. Da-eun and I are not exactly the same. The characters from other works also touch a corner of me. The best thing is that I know other people’s preferences and such, but in fact, I don’t know much about what I like. Keeping a praise diary has been very helpful to me personally, so I recommend it to many people.”

Also, choosing episode 5 as the most memorable episode, Park Bo-young said, “I thought Episode 5, Working Mom, was the most distant, but she found more comfort in that episode than she thought. I also shed a lot of tears. It seemed worthy of being said to people who are working hard.”

I thought this was something I could say to not only working mothers but also people who have worked hard and are losing themselves,” she added.

She said she took reference in preparing for her character by watching nurses in real hospitals.

What I tried to refer to the most was to focus on behavior. The first day I went, it was a busy morning. The nurses were busy before making rounds. The head nurses were one step behind and saw other things. I felt like I was one step ahead of everyone else, and sometimes I was one step behind, trying to figure everything out. Also, they hand over detailed information about how the patients are feeling and how they are feeling. When I saw that, I thought I should also focus on this area.”

Regarding the scene in the series where Da-eun acts out and expresses her true, honest side, Park said, “Actually, more staff members liked it than me. Finally, Da-eun expresses herself. Da-eun was a character who had endured and kept it inside for a long time, and when she screamed, they looked at it positively, saying, ‘She’s finally letting it out.’ I also felt refreshed,” she expressed.

In a previous interview, director Lee Jae-gyu said that Park Bo-young never got angry during filming, and he also described Yeon Woo-jin as an ‘angel.’

The way I get angry is not that big, but by my standards, I think I get angry a lot.”

On Navigating Her Career and Message for Da-eun

She also shares a glimpse of her maturity and what she learned so far in navigating her career life.

In the past, I was a very stressed person, but these days, my favorite phrase is ‘It could be like that.’ I think that problems that cannot be solved are inevitable, and if they can be solved, I think about ways to solve them. It wasn’t like that in the past, but now I’m trying to accept it. I think people become like that when they go through a lot of things.”

Giving a meaningful message for Da-eun, Park elaborated on how she weathered the storms in her life.

Da-eun may have many ups and downs in her life, but she believes that because she has grown up, she will have become a little more mature. I hope Da-eun, who works as a nurse in the future, will be a little less hurt and have a little less trouble. I think Da-eun will do well.”

Daily Dose of Sunshine which was released on November 3 is a Netflix series that depicts the various stories of the world and heartbreaking people that Da-eun, a nurse who is working in a mental health department for the first time, meets inside the psychiatric ward.
