Stringing notable successes on both small and big screens, Jung Woo Sung is happy and thankful.
The actor’s latest drama, Tell Me That You Love Me, recently wrapped up and was well-received for delivering simple and warm comfort.
Jung Woo Sung expressed his gratitude, “I feel fortunate, thankful, and proud to hear the response from people who like and support the drama so sincerely.”
There were also opinions that the work, which flows calmly, was not striking enough. But he has an eloquent response to that.
“In real life, relationships, conflicts, difficulties, understanding, etc. are all events, aren’t they? I thought that was enough. I wasn’t really worried. I had faith that this would reach viewers.”
Tell Me That You Love Me is a work for which Jung bought the copyright to the original work 13 years ago. After many years, he not only appeared as the main character, but also made a name for himself as a producer. In addition, the fact that this was her first appearance in a drama in 11 years since JTBC’s Padam Padam, which ended in 2012, also attracted attention.
Jung felt pressured to do a traditional melodrama at his age, but his sense of responsibility as a producer to respond to the belief motivated him.
“It’s been a long time since I did a romance drama at the age of 50. I felt really pressured. I seriously wondered if I should cast another actor. I had to raise his age by doing it, and I had to choose the right Jung Mo-eun, so I felt constrained. If I didn’t do it, too many free choices would arise.”
Confessing how special the drama is for him, he revealed he had been working on the script for several years, he had become impatient as he turned 50 in his late 40s.
“When I first got the copyright, I said, ‘I’m giving it to you because Jung Woo-sung is an actor,’ and I felt sorry that I brought it, but in the end, I couldn’t appear in it due to the passage of time. I had to do it before it was too late. If production had started this year, I really could have just produced it. I asked the director not to do any post-production work to make Cha Jin-woo look younger or prettier, and the director agreed. I also wanted to style my hair with natural hair without using any products.”
In addition to the favorable reviews of the drama, Jung Woo Sung also rose to the ranks of ’10 million club actors with the movie 12.12: The Day.
While expressing his gratitude for the film’s long-term success, he humbly said, “It’s not just me, it’s the movie that’s the best. I feel lucky to have been able to experience this. For the next project, I have to start from scratch again.”
Jung Woo Sung turned 50 this year. After finishing the last filming of the drama on October 30th, preparations were made for the release of Spring in Seoul, followed by the broadcast of Tell Me That You Love Me. Given a busy year, he announced that he would start his 50s calmly.
“Things that had been prepared for a long time have been carried out sequentially, and it has become a process of running without stopping. I am thinking that I should take a breather and start calmly.”
