Decoy Opening Week Highlights
“Please save me. No Sang Cheon has come to kill me.”
At the height of the era of pyramid scam, No Sang Cheon (Heo Sung Tae) established quite a following. Along with that, he amassed money from people who gambled their hard-earned money to the promise of return investment to his business.
However, his business crumble. Later, he was reported to have died in China breaking the hearts of the victims of his scam grieving for the money that won’t be returned.
When a homicide case was raised to Magang Nambu Violent Crimes Team, Chief Kang calls Captain Gu Do-han (Jang Keun Suk) to lead the case. Interestingly, the victim managed to call the emergency hotline and spill the cryptic words: “No Sang Cheon has come to kill me”.
Observant Do-han notices a strange man amongst the people curious about the case taking photos. He apprehends the man named Lee Byung Jun and among the photos he took are those of the murder victim. The situation caused him a trip to the police station for probing.
“There is no one here who believes No Sang Cheon really died.”
It turns out he is one of the victims of No Sang Cheon’s ponzi scheme, and belongs to a group believing that the evil fraudster is still alive. Without concrete evidence, Do-han let go of Byung-jun but assigned a man to tail him which led to the discovery of the organization of No’s Ponzi scheme.
However, the man tailing Byung-jun lost him for a while. In a freak coincidence, he visits another man who was also murdered with the same modus operandi as the first victim. Reporter Cheon Na-yeon (Lee Elijah) who is acquainted with Byung-jun through No’s victim organization tried to help him escape the sticky situation.
But they were too late as Do-han marked them as possible suspects. Chief Kang visits the second victim and talks privately with Do-han. He affirms they have a serial murder case, and they already have three instances dragging the notorious scammer No Sang Cheon’s name in the killings.
Decoy Opening Week Musings
As Decoy takes the trending partial-release format of dramas, we can expect the pace to pick up in the succeeding episodes. The opening week episodes fairly gave an overview of the characters and where the story is headed.
Pitching unique scenarios of whether No Sang Cheon is really alive and perpetrating the murders presented or whether someone is using him if he’s really dead as reported spin the mysteries to be unraveled in the next episodes.
Accordingly, Lee Byung Jun’s impeccable timing to be at the wrong place can also be a freak possibility there could be more plot twists that would involve him.
Despite a mediocre bait propelled on its premiere, Decoy has the potential to grow exponentially given it has four episodes left to uncover the truth about No Sang Cheon’s death. Relevantly, it also leads to discovering whether he is indeed involved in the merciless killings at present.
