Delivery Man Opening Week Story
Hardworking and kind, Seo Young-min assumes being the breadwinner for himself and his grandmother after his mother died. He earns a living as a private taxi driver.
Unfortunately, he needs to raise 20,000 KRW to pay for the loan he had or their house will be taken away from him.
Determined to raise money, his fate takes another turn when he founds a mobile phone inside his taxi. The moment he touched the device, it sorts of activated something: a ghost who can’t remember anything.
The ghost is revealed to be Kang Ji-hyun whose case is currently being investigated by the police. Realizing she has become attached to the taxi, Young-min can’t do anything but let her inhabit inside.
“How about a taxi for ghosts?”
However, her existence causes a downturn in his usual thriving business as passengers feel her presence causing them to feel uneasy. Except for a doctor who is Young-min’s regular, his sales each day are plummeting.
To make his situation worse, what he read about attracting ghosts happens as his taxi becomes an open place for other spirits to haunt. He takes in another ghost passenger, realizing too late that he is not from his world.
Considering his option to sell his taxi, Ji-hyun convinced him otherwise citing he can earn a living by driving the one and only “ghost taxi”.
Ji-hyun’s idea shapes up to be a viable option for Young-min since they work together to help a ghost father wanting to give his hidden wealth for his daughter’s hospital bills. He also gifts Young-min a piece of jewelry for clothing.
“Just like misfortune comes without a warning, a miracle can also happen when you least expect it.”
His other new passenger, Byung-chul, also pays him with his hidden gold bar and asks if he can do a bathtub in his house for his wife.
When Byung-chul’s wife almost lost her husband’s compensation money because of a fraudster who pretended to be Byung-chul’s biological mom, Ji-hyun’s strange law knowledge and Young-min’s keen observation help Byung-chul’s wife keeps the money especially since she is pregnant.
Celebrating their excellent teamwork, Young-min and Ji-hyun tried doing a high-five but fails miserably. When she reaches her hand, he notices a hair band that belongs to his mother.
Delivery Man Opening Week Musings
Entwining the fates of Young-min and Ji-hyun, Delivery Man endears in its first week of serving. Promising engrossing ghost stories, the added intrigue to Ji-hyun’s identity, and comical notes to her interactions with Young-min, make this series worth watching.
Notably, Yoon Chan Young and Bang Minah came prepared for their roles. Despite their age difference, the first week shows a decent amount of synergy between them.
Flowing to new featured ghost stories each week, viewers can expect healing narratives that come with the subject of death – love, appreciation, and acceptance. Assessing the connection between Ji-hyun and Young-min, we can also foresee heartbreak owing to how love can blossom between them.
More importantly, the series impressively carved a foundation for the lead pairing’s respective goals, by adding enough puzzling scenarios. Suggesting the connection between Ji-hyun’s death and Young-min’s mother to be linked appeared to be the possible culminating point of the series.
If you are looking for an upbeat and ghost-themed story, the series promises that and more.
