Doctor Lawyer Opening Week Story
Dubbed a monster for his talent in the operating room, Han Yi-han (So Ji Sub) is an upright doctor from a humble background. Aside from nailing clutch surgeries with ease, he is also serving as the ghost doctor of the son of the hospital’s CEO, Dr. Gu Jin-ki (Lee Sung Kyoung).
He has whatever he wants to have at the moment with a loving mother and steady girlfriend he intends to marry. When his life is seemingly falling all at the right places with a promised promotion and wedding, his life takes a 180-degree turn.
His girlfriend Geum Seok-yeong (Im Soo Hyang), a prosecutor has a younger brother, Seok-ju, with a heart condition under his care. Receiving good news of a heart’s availability to proceed with the heart transplant, all seems going to Yi-han’s simple plan of happiness.
Seok-ju’s Death
Seok-ju’s operation went smoothly despite the risky procedure that Yi-han had to do. Thereafter, he was summoned by Dr. Gu for a discreet operation involving a VIP patient.
Previously at the shareholders’ meeting, Dr. Gu and his wife are not in a favorable position owing to the monetary deficit of the business that is looking bleaker. Because of that, he was seen contacting a person to help with their situation.
Unknown to Yi-han, the discreet surgery along with Dr. Gu’s promotion promise are parts of his elaborated plan to get the needed funds for the business.
Advising him to take a break after the surgery, the wine he drank was spiked leading him to doze off fast. He was not able to attend to Seok-ju because of it.
When he wakes up, Seok-ju is on the brink of death. He, unfortunately, dies leaving Yi-han and Seok-yeong devastated.
Insisting on an autopsy, Yi-han gets another setback as the causes highlighted can be traced to the operation, specifically the risky procedure he did.
Doctor Gu’s Cruel Offer
Cutting his access to medical records, Yi-han was escorted to be questioned by the prosecutor and later detained in prison.
In his lone time, he has deduced how he was framed with the perfect setting by Dr. Gu complete with a huge amount of money given to him after the declaration of his promotion.
At his trial, the witnesses from the hospital are not helping him with the case. Only his trusted younger friend remains steadfast to the truth that he did not commit medical malpractice.
After getting beaten up by the prison’s gangsters, he wakes up to the sight of Dr. Gu offering him to just admit to the malpractice. If he does, that would revoke his medical license.
Left with no other choice, he acquiesces to the prosecutor’s charge, accepting the subsequent sentence. He also breaks up with Seo-kyeong as their circumstance would only warrant constant pain between them.
Five Years After
Vowing to round up doctors succumbing to medical malpractice, Seok-yeong faces a trial involving Yi-han’s former colleague, Park Ki-tae, who bore false witness about his action.
While the judge delivers the verdict, he falls down on the ground. Just then, Han Yi-han enters the courtroom and administers first aid to Ki-tae. He also introduces himself as the defendant’s lawyer.
Doctor Lawyer Opening Week Musings
Doctor Lawyer adds to the already thriving K-Dramaland we will all be looking forward to in the next two months.
From the looks of it, the series is shaping to follow Yi-han’s payback mission. In addition, he also intends to get to the bottom of the case that made his thriving life and career change.
It would be interesting to witness his interaction with his ex-girlfriend in the courtroom where they will be on the opposing sides. Likewise, his unfinished business with Dr. Gu is also another reeling point of the story.
Most likely, the investor Dr. Gu cut a deal for money would be the character of Jayden Lee (Shin Sung Rok) as we saw his character being introduced in the next episodes.
Right now, Yi-han’s game face appears unfathomable. But anyone who suffered his fate would of course want to clear his name and seek retribution.
Moreover, the courtroom stories to be featured in the series would draw interest since medical malpractice and corrupted acts would be involved.
I also hope that Lee Kyung Young’s next drama would be on a happier note as he’s been giving us quite a scare as a ruthless villain.
