Dr. Romantic 3 Opening Week Story
While enjoying his well-deserved vacation, Master Kim’s (Han Suk Kyu) fishing adventure gets disturbed by his students. His expertise is needed for patients in critical condition on board a water vessel.
Seo Woo-jin (Ahn Hyo Seop) is already on the ship with Nurse Eun-tak (Kim Min Jae) reviving an old man. Given a temporary life lease, surgery still needs to be done for the patient.
Another patient is a woman with a cough that badly needs medical care. After administering a relieving procedure, she also is deemed to need to be operated on.
However, their situation as defectors won’t allow them to be sent to a medical facility. Master Kim convinces the captain of the shift and promises to return them at a specific time.
Apparently, officials from North and South Korea are holding a summit meeting. If the news of the South helping defectors would reach the North, a big sum of investment at stake would be compromised.
Discreetly proceeding with the planned surgeries, Master Kim decides to do them at Doldam Hospital’s trauma center which is yet to secure a license to operate.
Meanwhile, Director Park Min-guk (Kim Joo Hun) eyes Cha Jin-man (Lee Kyung Young) to work for the trauma center and brings him on a tour to convince him further.
There he learned the urgent surgeries done by Master Kim which is closely watched by the government.
Pressed with the authority asserted by the government on the patients Master Kim and his students are trying to save, rookie resident Jang Dong-hwa (Lee Shin Young) adds to the trouble.
Unable to tolerate the long hours and with evident commitment problems to his career, Dong-hwa confronts almost losing his life, if not for Woo-jin who subdued one of the North Koreans who apparently killed the father of the young boy exhibiting traumatic duress.
Admin Chief Jang also forgot about scheduled maintenance at the trauma center. He realized it too late which almost jeopardized a hard-to-pull-off surgery being worked on by Master Kim and Cha Eun-jae (Lee Sung Kyung).
Successfully saving the patients, the defectors are sent back to North Korea as the summit proceeded as planned. It turns out Master Kim knows the government official meeting the North Korean officers and made a deal about the situation.
Dr. Romantic 3 Opening Week Musings
With a big cast, Dr. Romantic 3 maximized the introductory hook well in its launch week.
It also provides trajectories to expect in the series.
Master Kim’s trauma center vision is in the final stage of being completed. But the possibility of his nemesis Dr. Cha holding the center’s rein poses looming trouble.
Dr. Cha is obviously on a sour note with Woo-jin whom he deemed the cause of his family’s estranged relationship. Thankfully, Woo-jin seems determined to hold his ground.
Dong-hwa and Lee Sun-woong (Lee Hong Nae) foretell young doctors with contradictory motivations for their careers. Looking forward to their growth is one of the promising points in the series.
Speaking of promise, would Doldam Hospital couples progress from the comfy to forever stage this season? Woo-jin and Eun-jae are now house-sharing. But they also acknowledge moving to marriage would require a few relationships to mend first.
Eun-tak and A-reum are also in a safe state in their relationship. Regardless, they also need to move up to something more than special.
Will Director Park agree to Dr. Cha’s condition?
