The Good Detective 2 Opening Week Story
Violent Crimes Unit Team 2 of Incheon Regional Unit is forced to interact with the elite Seoul unit in chasing after a serial killer. The culprit is suspected to be Kim Hyung-bok who was let go by Team 2 for ginseng thievery.
While chasing after him, the detectives are not aware that a crime was committed at the very same place. It has been causing quite a headache to the headquarters because the serial killing is not stopping. When they took Hyung-bok as the possible culprit; the two teams are obviously not on friendly terms.
It turns out that Hyung-bok is not the serial killer, but when he was apprehended by Do-chang and Ji-hyuk; he ran off and met an accident. Eventually, he died and he was labeled as a notorious serial killer.
His death further heightens Do-chang’s career stress which Ji-hyuk noticed. The latter convinces him not to blame himself for mistakes he did not do.
“Young cops, the country believes in you.”
Something nags on Ji-hyuk about the last victim of the White Dress serial murder case. Jung Hee-joo is the same victim that caused him to leave Seoul. He proposes starting another case that will not cause concern since the previous case was already concluded.
Receiving encouragement from Eun-hee, Do-chang likes the idea suggested by Ji-hyuk as a way to make up for another innocent victim like Hyung-bok who died because of circumstances out of his control.
It turns out Ji-hyuk’s instinct is in the right direction. When they accompany Jung Hee-joo’s grandfather to visit the place where the victim died, they see another victim. A new round of police jurisdiction ensues between Team Seoul and Team Western Incheon.
Relenting to Team Seoul who would take the hit when they already closed the case and marked Hyung-bok; Team Incheon proceeds with the investigation. They deduce the smart serial killer picks on areas without CCTV and even catches the big bag he carries holding his needs for his kill.
The Good Detective 2 Opening Week Musings
Although not vaunting an impressive premiere week, The Good Detective 2 has this narrative that takes time to settle in. Assuming the side stories it will incorporate would point to conglomerate company TJ Group, the signature underdog vibe is in full swing.
To be honest, there’s nothing much to be tackled in the first two chapters. But given the good times, these detectives gifted the last time, it’s still worth the gamble.
Definitely, the excitement about the serial killing chase is just starting. Hopefully, the second week convinces us that the magic is still there.
Characterization-wise, the lead actors are expected to assimilate well to their characters. Old and new characters delivered well so far.
Do-chang and Ji-hyuk’s bromance, of course, is part of the signing-up reason for this series. They still own that “uncles we have to hang out with” vibe.
Will we see more Seoul vs Incheon case fight moments ahead?
