Eun Soo-hyun has everything life can offer. She has a happy family and a successful career. But things changed when her beloved son Gun-woo became a victim of a hit-and-run by a man linked to a politician. His connections led to a light sentence.
Nagged by the possibility that she could have not closed the gate properly which made Gun-woo freely leave their house, Soo-hyun grieved agonizingly. Her pain pushes her to act irrationally confronting the man who killed her son to apologize. But the evil man refuses to do so and even offers money. Enraged, she drives her car to purposely kill him.
At the trial, Soo-hyun did not accept a lighter sentence and opted for the years of punishment she deserved. While in prison, she had a meaningful connection with a woman who killed her cheating husband but in the process of burning the house, other people died except an 8-year-old boy.
When she learns she is dying she asks a favor to Soo-hyun to find the boy and deliver her unsent letters. Meanwhile, her husband Su-ho (Kim Kang Woo) whom she has been rejecting visits sets to a new career as an international correspondent. He was able to analyze his son’s death to be linked to the manipulations of Kim Joon, a wicked congressman, but the politician has a hold on him which made Su-ho back dow
After serving her sentence, Soo-hyun visits her son’s grave. When the rain poured, a young man, Kwon Seon-yul covered her with an umbrella which she refused. But he follows her and tells her son won’t like seeing her drenched with water.
Wonderful World Opening Week Musings
Sad and slow, Wonderful World modestly opened to establish the connections that will bind the characters. Hopefully, the unhurried launch episodes’ pace will pick up speed as more intrigue unfolds.
We can see a mother who lost her child and a young man who lost his family connecting to reasons yet to unfold in the series. Kim Joon’s hint at Su-ho’s possible infidelity is also anticipated to add flavor to the story.
Soo-hyun’s cell friend’s favor strongly suggests Seon-yul to be the survivor. In her near-death experience, Soo-hyun freed herself from the guilt of possibly aiding to her son’s demise remembering the door was shut down properly when she returned.
What’s next for her after prison life is something that viewers can look forward to.
